91 escort gt 5spd fill issues...IdealSociety 11-27-2005, 04:00 PM the piece that has the gear on it that is supposed to come out will seemingly not so i can fill the transmission! the little black piece came off the top that the speedo cable plugs into and now theres nothing to grab ahold of whats left sticking into the transmission so i can pull it and refill the tranny! anyone else ever had this problem? AzTumbleweed 11-27-2005, 05:50 PM Did you remove the 10mm bolt that holds it all in? There should be a reataining clip that holds the cable in to the black plastic thing. While I was out looking under my hood I found the electrical plug that goes there was unhooked. What's it for? Speed sensor? SgtRauksauff 11-27-2005, 07:09 PM yes, that's the speed sensor, also used by the Cruise Control system. What I've found to work in the past, is get a small hammer and chisel, and start tapping the speedo sensor housing to rotate it in the tranny. After you get it rotating, you can generally get it to slowly climb up enough to get a locking pliers (vise-grip) onto it, and then wiggle it back and forth until it's out.there's a rubber o-ring in there, so be careful not to ruin it. I suggest using some sort of good cleaning solution (brake cleaner on a rag, or something) to clean the tranny hole, and also clean the speedo gear housing as well. liberally coat the o-ring and speedo housing before re-installation. --sarge vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
