Just curious, how long will you keep your cav? Miles? year?
I got a 92 with 115K. Would like to get 200K. is this blasphemy?

If you maintain it well it should make it 200k. I am going to sell my Cavy just because I want a new car and my brother is going to need to get his first car soon. If I were to keep it until a certain milage, I would get rid of it at 100k. Then its still got plenty of life left for the next person. I probably wouldnt keep a car past 150k, but thats just me.

i did an oil change on a 98 cavy with 275,000KM.. she ran rough but fine and had the similier clunks, knocks, tin can noise sounds as my 98 with 175KM

the HG's are suspected to go around 200KM... my buddies went at 170KM

just mantain it and hope you dont got a lemon.. some cavy's are tough. but I seen some pretty junky ones.

but, you should get 200K out of it if it wasnt abused and oil changes done regularly.

Mines at 215k km's or 135k miles, it still runs actually pretty well, keep oil changed etc, but normal clunks and annoyances.

I still have my 89 with 300k on it. I use it as a spare car now and the car is dying around the motor/tranny. I always go close to 10k on an oil change(abuse?). The original fuel pump just died. And I did have the Headgasket go bad at 200k like everybody else. I think I just keep fixing it to see how far it will go before it needs a major overhaul. I figure it sure isn't worth much now (300k=maybe50$)???

I had 2 J-body cars before my 2002 Cavalier base model and I got rid of both of them at 150,000 miles. Both ran well with no major problems at all. Mostly just maintenance. I saw no reason why either car couldn't make it to 200K. Just do your regular maintenance like oil changes, trans oil and filter changes, and personally I drain and refill antifreeze with 50/50 mix every year. That's pretty much all I do.

im with kustm, my cav is at 310k km's and im coming into an engine with just over 200k km on it so ill switch it to that and run it till it dies (for 50$ i figure might as well)

That's exactly what I did! Spun a rod bearing at 187,000mi, got a junkyard 2.2OHV with around 90,000mi for $600 installed. Car now has 214,000mi and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't make it to 300,000mi. And when this one blows, there will be a beautiful Twin Cam 2.4 finding a new home.

My 94 RS has 165k with no major problems. You have to remember if you take care of your car up front and continue it can last forever. Maintenance being the key word. And yea i have had to replace ignition module, struts, shocks, tires, rotors, brakes, wheel bearings, cat etc, all maint parts and all go bad at some point in time. I change my oil at 3000 miles religiously, already took care of major tune up, and trans tune up, cooling system etc. I bought this car 2 years ago for $400. the cars body will rot before anything else!( central NY winters are a bitch) all in all i love this car!!!

Friend of mine had a 91 Z24 with 246,000 miles on it and he ran the shit out of it everyday by racing any and everything that would race him. Only reason he got a new car was because someone totalled his Cavy

I have a 1999 with 173,000 on it. I bought it at 100,000 with a used engine that had 11,000 miles on it. I put on 3,000 miles a month just commuting. I change the oil every month. I do like the car but now have to look for another motor in case. How long should the trans last....
And just where is a good place to get an engine and trans. Then installed...
Also, when changing the trans fluid, is the suck out and refill as done at the lube/oil places good enough or recommended have dealer service it?
Thanks
