On my 2001 grand cherokee I hooked up a bulldog remote starter the basic one with just start and stop on the remote. It starts and then just dies. i think its the anti theft on the vehicle cause when the key just sits in the ignition it starts and runs with the remote. i called bulldog and they say i dont need any other parts. does anyone know about these systems. the key is grey on this vehicle not black. thanks bayne...

have you tried to let it attempt to restart on it's own?

I have a designtech Remote Starter which I hooked up myself, and every once in awhile (more often lately) the jeep will crank for a split second then stop cranking, then the second attempt it cranks a lil longer and fires up.

It could have something to do with the anti theft on your WJ, if I am correct your jeep uses a sentry key system (smart key), which the PCM might not allow the jeep to stay running because it does not sense the key in the ignition.

Save your self a lot of grief and headaces just drop it in the trash can.
Unless you get a real good quality remote that is made for your car and get it installed right with good wiring.
It is going to give you a lot of grief sooner or later.

well I have a DESIGNTECH Remote Starter/Alarm/Keyless entry system in my 94 Grand Limited (with factory anti-theft) I installed it myself and don't have any problems with it except the occasional no start on first try and about 15 seconds later it tries again and always fires up.

Ok, so if you put the key in and not turn it, and use the remote starter it starts right up, and stays running? You need a transponder bypass. I'm shocked that bulldog said you didn't need anything else, they sell transponder/vats/pats bypass units. Also you can find them online, like from JCWhitney for about 19.99. But you can also make one.

This is what you do. Pick up a relay (any auto relay will do) Terminals 85 and 86 is the coil, hook either pin 86 or 85 to a (+) power source hook the other pin (if you used 85 for the + your going to use 86 for the trigger) to the negitive trigger of the bulldog (it will have one), make sure you put a 1amp fuse on the (+) for protection. Now you get 22ga. wire. wrap your key up in it, about 6 turns then tape it up. Connect one end of wire to pin 87 of relay. Now figure out how much wire to bring up to the ignition switch and wrap the wire around it about 5 times and connect the other end to pin 30 of the relay.

When the relay closes, it will make the wire a closed circuit, the key's signal will be inducted into the wire and will go up to the ignition switch tricking the car into thinking the key is in the switch.

But as one member said bulldog isn't good. Your lucky you got a working unit, so may have come to me to install one and I warn them that it could stay working for ever (very rare) or it could die in about 6 months. Or the best one (which has happen 5 times) there dead right out the box.

However they are very easy to install for the DIY, and usally very cheap local walmart sells them for 15 dollars.

Email me jman2343@hotmail.com if you need any help.

I have a Design Tech in my both of my Jeeps with no problems the one being in for 6 years. You will probally have to get a by-pass for the WJ alarm system. I did install a Bull dog on a Chrysler and I had the same problem. Had to disconnect the wirring harness on the brain to reset it. Sometimes you get a real Idiot in customer service.
