I have a 1998 chevy metro 3 cyl hatchback. The car runs perfectly but on cold days will not start. If the sun is shining on the hood it will start, but when it is cold just will not start. The battery is new. I read an article about a different car with the exact same problem. They said they replaced the ignition coil and the car worked perfectly. I replaced the coil -- but to no avail. The engine cranks it just won't catch. Does anybody have a clue? Crankshaft position sensor? solenoid? Help me obi wan konobe, your my only hope! I don't want to start paying $350 a mo in car payments! :)

What about the rest of the Ignition? Fresh spark plugs? Cap and rotor look good?

So what is left? How about the ECU temp sensor? If it is out of calibration your computer will never enrichen when cold (choke). Another important thing to check is vacuum and air leaks.

Thank you for your advice. I spoke with Pat Goss on his talk radio show about this problem and he seems to think it is the crankshaft position sensor, that it is sensitive to cold weather. I am going to try and locate the part, and give it a try. Thanks again

I found this little bit of information browseing reviews today, May or may not apply to your problem.

Hard starting: In cold weather the engine may not start, or may stumble or stall because ice forms in the vacuum line between the throttle body and MAP sensor. (1993-94)

I looked at your year and model and no mention of cold weather problems but if they never improved from the 94 models this may be a continuous problem.

1990 Geo H-back -- Only in colder weather 40 deg . or less - I have to pump the hell out of my gas pedal to start. Took it to my mechanic today he said I only get a trickle of gas .. After the car starts it runs fine and starts easy unless cool outside . How do you adjust the ECU temp sensor?

I'm Not really sure, I am no expert on these but I'm sure one of the Pro's will see your post and submit a reply. My guess would be there is no adjustment on a sensor but just to replace it with a better one.
