Anybody have problems with paint fading selectively? My '99 (champagne color) has a rear bumper that is almost silver. The door handles are also a slight mismatch. I've seen other Camrys with the bumper problem, but I've only noticed red ones.

Is this a common problem? It's not real ugly - it just looks a little odd.

BTW, it really is a fade. If I lift the trunk, I can see the original color along the edge of the bumper that's normally covered by the trunk lid. And it matches the rest of the car.

yeah, it seems to be a common problem with toyota paint. i have a 94 camry and a 98 camry, both have noticable fading in the paint. you could try buffing out the faded spots ( although i doubt that will do much good), but most likely you'll just have to deal with it until you paint it again.

by the way, my experience is the paint only fades in areas that you would touch or use the most, i.e. trunks, and door handles. i dont guess toyota used paint that was meant for us to touch. ha ha

Actually, it would be no buff-up job for me. The ENTIRE bumber is a (very even-colored) silver. I would have said someone had bolted one on from another car, except that - as I mentioned - the part the sun can't get to matches the car perfectly.

My mother has a '99 Toyota Camry and the rear bumper is also fading. I have spoken with the dealership about this but they have yet to respond as to whether or not the problem is a defect. It seems unusual that so many '99 Camry's are having the same problem. I feel that Toyota should take the magnitude of the problem and investigate the problem. They have a good reputation and I would hope they would want to continue it.
