Switching wheels/tires...1997 to 1994

Here's the thing. My better Metro, a 1997 with no rust, had ice + snow tires on the thing. It's the one I do NOT want to run this winter...it's a Montana car I picked up quite by accident. NO rust, NONE. Fresh engine swap.

My OTHER Metro's a 1994 four-door. It's the winter-beater...but the tires are middling-worn summer tread.

Without checking anything, I went to just stuff the 1997's wheels under the 1994. That's when I discovered the difference in wheel sizes...

The wheels are nearly identical, although the 97 ran 13-inch rims and the 94 ran 12-inchers. The centers, though, match up...except...

...for the studs and lug nuts.

The 1997 uses M11 metric nuts. The 1994 came with M10 nuts...just a tad smaller. The wheels went on, all right, and the centers match up...but the lug nuts are undersized. Looks like they'll pull through the 1997's wheels with time.

I've been going CRAZY looking for M10 lug nuts with a broader "shoulder" and seat to properly secure those wheels. And I HATE to give up - the 1994 is an automatic and the bigger wheels give the thing some relief at highway speeds.

And snows for the 12-inch wheels are impossible to find and probably will be prohibitively expensive.

Anyone know where I can get oversized lug nuts?

The nuts you need are out there.

Call some tire shops. Sooner or later you will find one that knows what you need. :iceslolan

Check NAPA. They won't have what you're looking for out on the shelves, but ask them, and they'll pull from the back.

NAPA didn't have a thing.

Summit Racing actually had the part on its website...it's made by Gorilla Automotive...a 10 mm inside thread with a 3/4 exterior, with a flared seat. Perfect.

Only trouble is it's back ordered.

We shall see.
