Second gear syncro in an 86 Sprint headed south, not yet destroyed but just a matter of time. I see lots of 5 speed transmissions out there for 89 and later Geos; will these interchange with the earlier versions? I know the engines have their differences but haven't been able to determine if there are transmission differences as well.

You cannot get parts for the older trans. I have been told, and when my first gear failed in my Sprint I too wondered about the newer trans. It stands to reason that it should bolt to the engine easily, but mounts and other oddities could require fabrication.
