Hi all: I am new to this forum, but have a problem that I'm sure many of you have encountered or at least heard of. My father in law has the above vehicle and whenever he drives it, the more he presses the accelerator, the brighter the lights in the dash (and presummably the exterior lights as well) get. He has checked the charging system and the usual ground connectors, but can't find anything loose. Has anyone experienced this? I have a Maxima, so my knowledge on these cars is very limited.

Is it possible that the alternator and/or coil are not grounding properly? Or is is something with the fusebox? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did this model z have an internally regulated or externally regulated alternator?

description sounds like a bad external voltage regulator.

i don't have much experience with the year/model z you are refering to, but i have worked extensively with the old datsuns.

hopefullly the z forum guys will see this and be of more help to you.
