Clutch Or Slave Cylinder ?POULANDS 11-21-2005, 12:27 PM My 1999 Dodge 3/4 Ton Truck Has A 5 Speed Standard Transmission To Go With Its Cummins Diesel And Has About 150,000 Miles On The Factory Clutch. It Has Started To Be Hard To Get Into Reverse (reverse Only). I Usually Put It Into Drive And Pull Forward A Few Inches And Then Shift Back Into Reverse With No Problems. After Traveling In Reverse, The Transmission Shifts Back Into A Forward Gear Just Fine. Is This The Clutch Going Out Or The Slave Cylinder Getting Weak? wehswarriorS-10 11-21-2005, 10:45 PM ok....try this....start the truck and push the clutch in....wait about 9-10 sec. and try to put it in reverse, if it grinds any at all ur clutch isnt releasing right and its prolly time for a new one snce u said u have 150,000 on the original one. Reason this has to be reverse is cuz u have syncros in all the forward gears and they stop everything making gear changes easy, reverse is unsychronized so this will tell u if ur clutch is releasing fully. and even if it was ur slave cyl....if i was gonna put a new one on, i would change the clutch anyways because after 150grand, ur pressure plate is probly pretty weak and disk fairly worn POULANDS 11-22-2005, 08:57 AM ok....try this....start the truck and push the clutch in....wait about 9-10 sec. and try to put it in reverse, if it grinds any at all ur clutch isnt releasing right and its prolly time for a new one snce u said u have 150,000 on the original one. I FELT LIKE IT WAS THE CLUTCH BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK, BUT A FRIEND OF MINE THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE SLAVE CYLINDER SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GET ANOTHER OPINION. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
