Just curious as to what your favorite Pontiac rims are..

Me- I like the look of the Honeycomb wheels used on the early 70's T/A's as well as a few other Pontiacs.

The stereo-typical Pontiac will have the Rally IIs (5-spoke pattern, stamped steel wheel). The Honeycombs are rare and heavy (steel wheel with Endura "insert" to look like a "mag"), popular only among the restoration crowd. Snowflakes are VERY popular for the late '70s crowd. There are 7" and 8" versions.

My personal favorite is the "Turbo" wheel found on '80 ad '81 Turbo T/As. 8", cast aluminum, and very functional (move a lot of air across the brakes). An old friend had a set on a '70 GTO. They looked GREAT! The snowflakes on the same car looked anachroniystic, to say the least...

Weren't those "turbo" wheels also (first) used on the '79 10th anniversary model T/A?? Or am I mistaken?

You may be right. I've only seen a couple of those cars over the years. Regardless, a cool wheel!

I think the coolest wheel for a muscle Pontiac is the rare Hurst "mag" from around '65. Pontiac people spend INSANE money to get these today, and I think they only came in 14".

Tell you a couple of other Pontiac wheel stories. When my Mom ordered a new 1964 Catalina hardtop (I was 13), she said I could pick any one option and she'd get it on her car. I chose the 8-lug aluminum wheel/brake drum/demountable steel rim combo. It looked SWEET with fat BFG Silvertown blackwalls!

When my wife decided to sell her '66 'Vette coupe (automatic, full power, air, FACTORY HEADRESTS) for $1600 in 1974, I told her she shouldn't, that it would be worth four or five thousand some day(!). She insisted she wanted a new Firebird Esprit. So I helped her pick out Admiralty (dark) blue with a white interior and white vinyl top and honeycombs. When the special-ordered car came in, something didn't look right to me. It was the 14" rims in those big fenders! I talked the dealer into swapping for 15" honeycombs/rwl tires off another Firebird on the lot. Her car looked great, but I've always wondered if the buyer of that Trans Am ever noticed the little wheels!

I've always liked the snowflake rims. I had a set of them back 15 -18 years ago, but I can't remember which vehicle I had them on :rolleyes: ( it was either a '77 Grand Prix or a '76 Monte Carlo. Hey it's hard to keep track of which vehicle had what on it when you've owned over 20 cars in the last 21 years:lol:) I bought them from an ad in the paper for a great price. Wish I held on to them.
