It's WINTER here in N, Ky...getting damn close, at least.

My girlfriend's 01 Accord had the heat stop working about a month ago. Any idea WHY?!?! All of a sudden it just quit! PLEASE...any help is appreciated...

Well, first, you don't tell us if the blower has quit, or whether it's blowing cold air.

Yup...blows enough cold air to cause frost bite. Everything works fine, it just doesn't get hot. I can even hear things moving in the dash when I turn the temp dial from cold to hot. It just doesn't get hot.

The temperature control knob connects to a valve in the engine compartment on the passenger side at the firewall. Have somebody turn the knob and look to see if the valve actutates.

How did you fix your problem? I have the exact same issue with a 2001 Accord V6 Sedan. I turn the knob so that it reads 90 degrees and it only blows freezing air!

There's a little valve in the back of the engine bay (by the firewall) on the passenger's side. Apparently it gets stuck.

Thanks so much. I'll check it out.

Please excuse me newbieness. Do I just need to oil it to unstick it, or take it in and get it replaced? Could I replace it myself if I know next to nothing about cars?

No problem, man. You just pull it out. You should be able to see what I'm talking about when you start looking. Any other problems, lemme know!

Ok, I had a GoodYear mechanic look at my car (for free, since I told them they probably caused the problem by working on my EGR code issue) and he fixed the no heat issue by replacing the thermostat.

Well now, I get no cold air (which will be a problem when it gets warm). I had the mechanic look at the valve you told me about and he said that valve almost never fails. He said that the computer controls it and since I still have an EGR computer problem, that might be causing the valve to not switch over to 'cold' mode. He also said there is a 'door' under/near the glove box, which might be stuck, but not to mess with it, since it will take one hour labor to verify.

So, he told me to bring my car in to Honda to fix the EGR recall issue and that would probably fix my no cold air problem. Does this sound right to you guys or is he giving me the runaround? I think they screwed something up trying to fix my EGR problem, and that is why they looked at my car and replaced my thermostat for free. Somebody help, please!
