Auto Paint on Acrylic?

I have a semi-clear acrylic top for a Corvette that I would like to recycle as painted. I plan to sand & paint the top side & put a headliner on the underside. What are the technical issues in getting paint onto this surface? Are special primers needed? Is this even advisable?

Painting the top is not much different than painting the fiberglass Vette body. The paint system you are using should have a fiberglass compatible primer, which should be safe for the top.

Just spray a tiny area to start, to make sure the solvents in the primer don't melt/dissolve the acrylic.
