Since you changed the speed sensor with non results check the wirring from the speed sensor. Many sensor problems are in the wirring. As for the engine light being on - turn the key off-then on -off and on -the Computer should flash the code or codes, count the flashes like 24 41 ect. and post back.

the speed sensor has to be aligned or it won't work right. the number of teeth on the gear is marked on it. on the top are sets of numbers at 4 locations. turn it so the proper set for that gear is aligned to the line on the case opening.

Are you sure the codes were 36 and 55, I do not show a code 36 in the book?

You might want to recheck. just pay close attention to the flashes and pauses.

Well I had an issue with my Speedometer nto working and it was a loose connection from the PCM to the Instrument Cluster. Check the wiring harness right above the PCM (PCM is located on the passengerside firewall in the engine compartment, right behind the Coolant Overflow Bottle), There is a round harness right above the PCM (computer) with a nut in the center of this connector holding it together, check this nut for looseness, If my memory serves me correctly it should be a T30 torx bit.

according to this website: http://www.allpar.com/fix/80s-codes.html
Code 36 means: solenoid coil circuit (air switching)
Code 55 means: End of codes

Have you rechecked the codes.

I do not think that code on ALLPAR pertains to JEEP. I checked both my books and there is no code 36. Have you rechecked you codes?
