On another forum some 1 posted that if you wrap a 10 foot bungee cord around a drive shaft clockwise that it would give you a better launch. is this true or is it total bull?

sounds like bull shit to me, for 1 who the hell is gonna climb under the car to wrap it around the drive shaft? it might cause drive shaft balance issues if it doesnt tear the bunge apart.

hahaha thats awesome.
i know wrapping it in duct tape adds at least 20 horses

using tension to launch a car.... its been done on toy cars.... basically its a practical theory and you can store extra energy that way but with a bungee cord? HELL NO! Kids these days...

well it would work, but not on a regular gas powered car. maybe if you built some weird go cart thing. i think i read about that somewhere.

Each bungee strap = 1 second off 1/4 mile time.... DUH........u could hit the 9s like nothin.....

but honestly... in concept its good.... take it any farther and i dunno.... its not even worth wripping up a 4 dollar bungee strap for... lol u might gain like 1/1000 ftlb of TQ......

ok i feel confident in saying that when you let loose the brakes, and floor it, that shaft is gonna spin faster than the cord is gonna unwind, and the force it adds is infintesamal comaired to the power of even a four banger, let alone a V8. then you have to worry aobut it getting spun up and thrown like shrapnal out the side of the car, or wrapping around the driveshaft unbalancing it and causing a horrible drivetrain vibration that could cause serious damage. its fun to joke about but really, no body even try this in the off chance of trying to be funny, its a very bad idea.

I have heard tons of stupid myths about magnets on the gas tank and resistor in your aldl datalink but this one is the most troublesome and will most certainly cause at very minimum a broken U joint.

i could so see someone powering up their car by pushing it backwards(to wrap the bungee) like the little toy cars lol......

what ever happend to "all motor" power? i consider anything that is not all motor, rice. nitrous is an exception but still not a big fan. all this generic power, such as this bungee wind up nonsense is rediculous. but thats just me. im gona stick my camaro on a jet launch pad. daaaaaang!

haha yeah where u had to pop the baloon with the needle mounted on the front of the car. haha good times

I can just see it. One of ya'll pull up to race some rice, they pop the hatch, get out a bungee strap, and you have to wait on them to wind it up... Lol

I prefer the rubber band/slingshot method myself.

maybe one of those cable launchers on a aircraft carrier would work....that would be a rush if you hook one of those up to a car....if it didnt rip the car in half....

I wan't to be in a plane takes off a carrier, I think that would be one hell of a rush, going from zero to a couple hundred miles an hour in nothing flat.

Yeah but think about it. Hook a car that weights about an 1/8 of a jet up to one of those cables.....dang.....

um, the aircraft launching device your talking about is a steam catapult, the cable is actually an arrestor device used to stop the aircraft once its landed.

and for anyone who wants to try it out, head out to kings dominion, they have a roller coaster powered by one of those, its pretty intense.

y'all is CRAZY yo.

dat bunjee is the rizzle fo shizzle ma nizzles!

In all honesty, you have to make sure each wrap is 2.25" from the last one, and the DS remains perfectly balanced... when it all coild and springs out on the launch it resumes the same position.

The other option is to have your foot off the brake, and have top fuel dragster rearend you at 200 something MPH. killer launch.

Dont the cables on carriers assist in launches as well? If they dont.....yeah i feel dumb...The idea is still good though right?

dude..... think about that for a second.... adding anything to your driveshaft wont add power (takes more power to turn a heavier unbalanced driveshaft)..... and second who doesnt have atleast a couple of rolls of duct tape laying around?
