Turbos gone to hellsalem1oliver 11-17-2005, 08:27 PM OK guys I need a little helpful advice. I took my car to the local Nissan dealership service center because the car was not boosting. They called me latter and told me both turbo's were shot and that it was going to be over $6000 for the turbo's and over $3000 for the labor, for a total of about $10,000. To me this sounds extremely high. I was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on where to find good turbo's that don't cost to much. I heard AMZperformance had some good ones that were not too expensive. Also how hard is it to change the turbos by yourself. I have no experience working on cars. Is it something I woulld even want to think about tackling by myself. Thanks for any advice you can offer. Aaron DeleriousZ 11-17-2005, 08:56 PM hooooly fuck, go back to nissan and kick them SQUARELY in the nuts, that's Insane... anyway, yeah, amz has some decent ones, depending on what your budget is and what you want to do with the car you could upgrade or find some stockers... people are upgrading all the time and getting rid of their old ones... anyway, usually replacing the turbo's requires pulling the engine unless you have magically triple jointed hands.. depending on where you are you could probably find a shop that will do it much cheaper than 3 grand.. xXxRocker5150 11-17-2005, 09:06 PM YEa dude fucking 10 grand is a rip... if you don't mind waiting about 2 years or so, I'm sure Jason'll help you out k3smostwanted 11-18-2005, 01:04 AM YEa dude fucking 10 grand is a rip... if you don't mind waiting about 2 years or so, I'm sure Jason'll help you out 2 years for what??? for $10k you can get a fully built motor with insanely upgraded turbos and everything else to go along. you need to pull the motor to do a turbo change, it will probably take less time to do this than to fiddle with working around everything else. i ahve been down there and i dont see it happening without pulling the motor. you can get upgraded turbos for less than $2000 and labor should cost less than half that. where do you live? maybe i can point you in the direction of a quality shop. salem1oliver 11-18-2005, 12:44 PM 2 years for what??? for $10k you can get a fully built motor with insanely upgraded turbos and everything else to go along. you need to pull the motor to do a turbo change, it will probably take less time to do this than to fiddle with working around everything else. i ahve been down there and i dont see it happening without pulling the motor. you can get upgraded turbos for less than $2000 and labor should cost less than half that. where do you live? maybe i can point you in the direction of a quality shop. I live in Murrieta, Ca. Which lies almost directly in between Riverside and San Diego. I called a local Nissan Specialty shop and they said labor would run about $1500 if I provided the turbo's. Any suggestion on good low cost turbo's to replace with. I am still weighing my options as to whether I want to replace the turbo's, try and sell the car and let someone else deal with it, or try and trade it into a dealership (hoping they don't ask if I know of any mechanical problems or drive it before I leave). Any idea what I might be able to sell it for. It has 114K miles, two bad turbos, and the passenger side front wheel fender has been smashed in a little? k3smostwanted 11-18-2005, 12:51 PM I live in Murrieta, Ca. It has 114K miles, two bad turbos, and the passenger side front wheel fender has been smashed in a little? hmm....any pics. i would guess you could get $4k-$7k from an enthusiast. but i will give you $1500. :D if you put the money to fix the turbos in the car, you may be able to get $10k+ for the car depending on the condition of the rest of the car. just an idea. $1500 is still a litte high i think...but it is definitely reasonable. check Twin Turbo.net for some used turbos from somebody that has upgraded. check the classified section. i just saw some stockers on there from some guy with 47k miles that claimed to have no shaft play. i picked up mine from some guy that upgraded to 700BB's for $200. deals can be made and found. good luck! BTW: if you have a buddy that has some tools and a engine puller, you woul save alot of money by oing it yourself. pulling the motor isnt all that difficult. id rather pull the motor than do a lot of other basic maitenance type things. xXxRocker5150 11-18-2005, 03:39 PM lol how's long's it been since you're car's been "under the knife" Jason... two years... :p k3smostwanted 11-19-2005, 12:22 AM lol how's long's it been since you're car's been "under the knife" Jason... two years... :p hasnt even been a year yet...:loser: xXxRocker5150 11-19-2005, 10:49 AM suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrre it hasn't k3smostwanted 11-20-2005, 05:31 AM suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrre it hasn't it hasnt...february it will be a year. :loser: longlivetheZ 11-20-2005, 08:47 AM You might as well upgrade while you're at it. Pop the engine out (or HAVE it pulled for you) and do/get all the regular maintenance stuff done...timing belt, tune up, all that good shit. Do all that stuff and upgrade the turbos while you're at it and you'll have a great car that you would NOT want to sell for a long time. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
