better way to hang the spare?

I just had go through the process of destroying the hanging mechanism to get my spare tire out. Luckly I was home and access to tools.

The damn tire would only drop about one inch and then it hung up. I could turn the unit but the tire wouldn't drop. I tried everything and after an hour in 20 degree weather and call a to dealership the only option they gave me was to cut the cable which I couldn't get at.

Has anyone ever hung the tire different that actually works better than the setup that is on the truck.

I never had a problem hanging the spare. it works great. I had removed the spare 3 times already and each time, I'm amaze how great it is. I really hate haveing the spare bolted to the rear gate. Makes parking in tight spaces much harder if not impossible.

Looks like something is wrong with the spare hanging mechanism, should have it looked at by a dealership.

Better yet, check with Trailvoy.com and see if anyone had the same issue with theirs.

I had a similer problem and had to cut the cable. Pain in the butt!!!!
I can see that the winch mechanisim is shot and i will have to replace it.
