Whats a good exhaust to put on my 96 ram 1500 5.2 liter 318?was looking on jegs at the flowmaster tuned truck exhaust for like $300. or the magnaflow cat back? I used to have a 2 into 1 into 2 OTR with no muffler and just 2 baffled tips on it, it sounded great!!!But it rusted and fell off. I'm in Florida so no inspection so I don't really need a muffler but where can I find those baffled tips? They were like 12 to 15 inches long.and can you buy the pipes for the exhuast without the muffler?
Thanks in advance!

Just goto a muffler shop with the tips you want and just go straight back. I wouldnt pay for a "name brand" exhaust. Pipes are pipes. But if you stamp a name on them they cost more.

any suggestions on where to get the baffled tips? I don't see them on JC whitney or Jegs. They were like 12 to 15 inches long with a long baffle inside....kinda like the same as a vance and hines baffle in my harley if you know what that looks like.

Did you save the tips from your old system? I would just reuse them if they still look half decent.

Why not get baffled mufflers like glasspacks, and have normal tips? As an idea.

Glasspacks are a waste of money. Over time they just turn into a straight pipe because of carbon buildup.

That would be my legal way of obtaining straight pipes if I wanted them.

They're cheap, you can't go wrong. This guy wants baffles anyway.

The old tips were rotted and looked like garbage....I want baffled tips because I don't want the cops stopping me eveywhere I had the baffled tips on striaght pipes and the truck sounded GREAT but was not offensive like just a striaght pipe therefore no cops.....You guys know where I can get some??? preferablly steel...my old ones were painted black or something.

most any good exhaust shop should have them, and if u cant find them anywhere, i would go with a flowmaster 40 series and yes u can get just the muffler at a shop and not have to pay jegs 500 bucks for the whole system and just get some good looking stainless steel tips of ur liking but dont get chrome ones because rocks and stuff ur tires kick up will chip the chrome off them and they will rot QUICK and this has a good low rumble at idle and as the rpms go up u still get that aggressive, pissed sound. This is what i have on my Dakota. Oh and this is just what i think, may or may not be true....2.5 in. pipe with atleast a 4 inch tip...maybe a 5(what i have) sounds really good, gets rid of the popping, crackling and gives it more of a deep rumble...

My truck has two 4" tips and it crackles.

Love it.

Get an exhaust cutout. I love mine, I prefer the look of duals over the stock exhaust look. The elec cutout is awesome though. I would recommend one of them to anyone.

I got one because i dont want my truck to be loud as hell all the time. I dont like being harassed by the local cops. So now i can run open from the cat back or have it closed and quiet as can be.

I see it as a way to tune your exhaust to sound how you want it.
