looks like my coil pack is bad: low power, ruf idle check engine lite and rotten egg smell sporadic. Any one had experience with this? Coil looks like a challenge to get out and hate to do it if I am on teh wrong path.

mist water on the coil when the engine is running, if it arcs or misfires its bad. if not than dont replace it.

I've known this technique for testing plug wires, did not know it worked for a coil pack as well. Good sugggestion.

Most definetely the coil! Just replaced the one in my wife's Beetle, which was cracked in two places. However, prior to replacing it it ruined a catalytic converter. It's a fairly easy job to do...and the new one is improved so it won't crack!
