Hello everyone, I need some help finding a problem with the cooling system on my 2001 JGC Ladredo. The radiator fan does not work after the first time it shuts down, let me explain. When I first crank my jeep, the temperature will start raising normally, and when it reaches the 210-F the radiator fan will run normally and cool it down until the temperature gets normal for the fan to shut off, my problem is, that the fan will not run anymore. Whenever my jeep reaches the 210 again, the fan will not run, the only way to keep it cool, is to keep it mobile. The only way to make that radiator fan run again is letting the car cool off completely, and then crank it up, and the same is gonna happen, it runs the first time and thats it.

Any suggestions, or solutions, or any similar cases like this will be good to hear about. thanks y'all

Sounds like the fan relay is shot.

Are you talking about the mechanical fan or the electric fan?
Most years have both.

When I first crank my jeep, the temperature will start raising normally, and when it reaches the 210-F the radiator fan will run normally and cool it down until the temperature gets normal for the fan to shut off...

You have to define "normal" temps. There may not be a problem at all.
210 deg. F is normal operating temperature for '99 to 2004 Grand Cherokees.

Proper electric fan operation: Using the instrument panel temp. gauge as reference, when cold the electric fan is off until the temperature approaches 200 degrees. At that point the fan engages its low setting. When the temp. exceeds 210 degrees, it starts to run at its high setting.
When the temp. falls back to 210, the fan turns off.
It will repeat this cycle continuously if it needs to.
The mechanical fan should not run until the temp. goes well over 210*

My Grand Cherokee, with the help of the electric fan, stays at 210* whether it's 32* outside or 100* with the AC on.

The point of this is, for emission reasons, the cooling system is designed to keep the motor running as close to 210 deg. as possible.

If the electric fan does not turn on again after the temp goes over the 210* mark, as noted the relay/temp sensor or fan is faulty.

Don't the 01' only have electric fans? And it's always been my understanding that a mechanical clutch fan was always engaged until the rpms reached a certain level then the clutch let it free up. This way it's not bogging down your motor at high rpms, just at low rpms where you are presumably not moving much air across your radiator due to low vehicle speed.

The cooling fan configuration never changed for the 4.0L 6.
If you have a 4.0L 6 cylinder, the primary cooling fan is electric.

The mechanical fan is never engaged unless the temp reaches 220 or 230 deg.
The mechanical fan as a primary cooling fan on the 4.0 L 6 would not work out well - it would use HP from an already mediocre powered motor...thus its use is relegated to only activate when the primary cooling system fails to keep the temperature in the safe range.

In 2001, the 4.7-liter engine got a newly designed, very efficient (hybrid as Chrysler calls it) hydraulically driven engine cooling fan.
It works well but a few hard core Jeep owners don't like them because it steals a few HP.
