Jeep Grand Cherokeeberth 11-13-2005, 07:00 PM How do you adjust the parking brake? It pulls up to its limit even though the rear brake pads have been replaced. dksob81 11-14-2005, 07:52 AM What year is your Grand Cherokee? On the 93-98 models, there is an adjustment under the middle of the jeep right about where the rear passenger doors are just look right above the driveshaft. You will see where the 2 cables that go to each side of the rear brakes meet with the cable that goes to the lever. vamc 11-16-2005, 06:27 PM I agree. Bob D. 11-16-2005, 09:42 PM If '99 to 2004- 1. Be sure parking brake lever is fully released. 2. Raise vehicle so rear wheels can be rotated freely. 3. Remove plug from each access hole in brake support plates. 4. Loosen parking brake cable adjustment nut until there is slack in front cable. 5. Insert adjusting tool through support plate access hole and engage tool in teeth of adjusting screw star wheel. 6. Rotate adjuster screw star wheel (move tool handle upward) until slight drag can be felt when wheel is rotated. 7. Push and hold adjuster lever away from star wheel with thin screwdriver. 8. Back off adjuster screw star wheel until brake drag is eliminated. 9. Repeat adjustment at opposite wheel. Be sure adjustment is equal at both wheels. 10. Install support plate access hole plugs. 11. Adjust parking brake cable and lower vehicle. 12. Depress park brake lever and make sure park brakes hold the vehicle staionary. 13. Release park brake lever. berth 11-20-2005, 09:02 AM What year is your Grand Cherokee? NO, what I posted IS CORRECT for adjusting the '99 to '04 JGC (WJ) parking brake. In fact, it's word for word from the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL on PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT. Do you have a clue? dksob81 11-25-2005, 09:48 AM Bob. D is right, Those are the correct parking brake adjustment instructions. All Grand Cherokees after 95 were equipped with DISC BRAKES. But the adjustment at the tensioner is alot easier altho not recommended (by the FSM). vamc 11-26-2005, 03:11 PM I agree. JDPascal 11-26-2005, 03:34 PM Well then --- so do I!! -----agree that is ----:smokin: One thing tho is to make sure that the park brake shoes are not worn out and the pivot lever at the top of the shoes is not seized. To get at it, remove the caliper and the rotor. The axle makes things awkward to get at tho. Much easier when the axle is out but thats another job!!!! JD vamc 11-27-2005, 12:17 AM Well---a few hour job that is. lol vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
