92 metro bad mileagebriggie 11-10-2005, 07:40 PM only getting 26 mpg on a 1.0 litre, changed plugs,wires,oxygen sensor, cap. roter. set timing, even took off cateletic converter, car has miss when idleing it will idle at 1200, put in gear with brake on it drops to 500 is there a sensor bad? engine light is not on? Mine would dump fuel down the throttle body because the ecm was not getting the signal from the coolant temp sensor,the ecm just went on acting like it needed to have a rich fuel mixture because it was "cold" outside. Coolant must circulate through the top of the throttle body.pull the air cleaner and you will see the switch and the hose that feeds it coolant, you will also find the exit hose for the coolant . I suggest that you carefully remove the exit hose and see if it does indeed have circulation. Mine was plugged by a small piece of rtv , had to fish it out with a wire. . A sure sign of the forgoing condition is silicone rtv on any coolant system component, thermostat housing,water pump ect. Check it out and grt back to us if you will.
