On my 2000 Silverado 1500, 5.3, ext. cab, Autotrac 4wd: how many grease (zerk) fittings should I find? Thanks.

My 2002 Xcab 4x4 had 11.

Jack it up and count them on the front end and then add one more.for the one inside the rear double u joint if it has one.

Upper ball joints, lower ball joints, inner tie-rods, outer tie-rods, 3 on the steering gear.

To grease the zerk on the idler arm, I've found that if you turn the wheels all the way to the right you can get your grease gun on it fairly easy.

Good info in the two upper post.
Shot I wanted him to get under there and look around
but that picture took all of the fun out of it. But good pictures anyway.
After you get the front greased get a needle for your grease gun and go look at the rear drive shaft.
There should be a needle type grease zerk fitting in the center of the rear double joint. Look close and rotate drive shaft it is hard to see.
Also check the drive shaft slip joints and u joints but most of the are not greaseable.
Give it a couple of squirts.
And while you are under the check the rear end and front rear end transfer case if you have one.

Alright, how many on a 2wd model?

You may have to get under there and count them on a 2WD. Depends on the steering and pitman arms setup.
But you can count on upper and lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends
having them.

Thanks to all for the replies. (Even MT2500 who was trying to make me learn... I had actually already looked and found 9, but was fairly sure I was missing something, so I asked.)
