I've heard this is a common problem - I need new pads and the rotors are at minimum thickness so I'll need to replace them anyways.

Recomendations for rotors and pads?

Are the calipers playing a role in the brake shimmy? The rotors turn freely so the calipers aren't "stuck". But wasnt sure if I should replace everything or just replacing the pads and rotors will fix the shimmy problem for good - of course I will torque the wheels properly...

I'm not doing any off-roading.

The NAPA pads and rotors are always a good choice as are the Wagner and Bendix name brand parts.

Go for the higher end parts. You do get what you pay for in brake parts.

As for the calipers, "arn't stuck" isn't always a safe way of deciding whether to replace them or not. It is the potential for problems before time for the next brake job that should be considered.

What miles on the vehicle?
How many brake jobs done?
City or highway driving?
Your temperatures are high where you live so the rubber parts will have suffered.

For the cost of the calipers - about 40 each after the cores are returned- they might be a worth while investment...

Some suppliers have "loaded calipers" where you get the pads, calipers and new install parts all in one pak.

Decide what you want and see what you can find.

At the very least, suck out the old brake fluid from the master cylinder (with a turkey baster) and refill with new and bleed the calipers till the fluid runs clear. Keep the reservoir full........

This is a common problem for that year of JGC. The calipers apply too much pressure to the pads and they get hot a warp. I recomend Bendex suv rotors and pads. They'll stand up to the abuse.
