91 DeVille hood latch stuck

I have a 91 DeVille that the hood latch is stuck. The cable seems to be puued all the way out inside the car, but won't pull out as to indicate the cable is broken. I have taken off the front grill to try to find a realease to get the hood open to repair the cable assembly but am having little luck. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. try banging on the hood with your fist while someone holds the latch all the way out.
