'96 3.8 vs '04 Ram 1500 HEMI ??fwellingtonfiii 11-08-2005, 08:34 PM Ok guys, Ive wondered this for a while, and I cant really find numbers on the truck, time wise. So I was wondering, if me and him raced, what would I be up against. I got a stock 3.8, and he's got the stock 5.7 Quad Cab. Camaro- 200hp, 225lb/ft weight- 3300ish? A4 Ram- 345hp, 375lb/ft weight- 5500ish? A5 I realize hes got a lot more power than me, but with all that weight, wouldnt it hold him back? I know top end wise he'd be coming like a bat out of hell, but it a quarter mile, whats he got on me? Thanks in advance for your guys' brilliance, I read the forum everyday, but Im not a pro since I just got my camaro recently, meaning I cant help many people, so I dont post much. Xenostalgia 11-08-2005, 09:06 PM hemi > 3.8 He is heavy but he has a hell of alot more power then you. He'll win off the line and in the end. stone_mound_camaro 11-08-2005, 09:25 PM yea man... u will lose dont underestimate him cuz he has a big heavy truck. that dodge ram rt/10 truck is like 0-60 4.9 secs or sumthin ridiculous like that Rally Sport 11-08-2005, 09:56 PM Yeah, you're going to get smoked if you race the guy.. i've gone up against a Hemi before and man! Those can go fast.. if you race him, prepare to lose, so dont make any bets if this isnt for fun. R.OConnor 11-09-2005, 12:48 AM what about a 3.8 with nitrous pushing around 300? Savage Messiah 11-09-2005, 02:05 AM It's up to gear ratios and transmissions/drivers. If he has a shitty gear ratio he will have shitty acceleration... Also the ram SRT-10 is a whole different monster, it has a Viper V10 and Viper T56 6-speed transmission. I don't know why anyne woudl even mention one when the questin is about a normal 1500. I say race him and see, I haven't raced one so i don't know. Rally Sport 11-09-2005, 09:13 AM wuts up wit dat last question homeboi?? we all know u was talkin bout me..tryin 2 add lil comments on tha sly..not slick bruh Alright I dont know whats up with this part, but believe me the Dodge will win, those things are beasts. balls_to_the_wall 11-09-2005, 10:17 AM Ok, don't race the hemi, you will lose. Also, off topic, but Never race a diesel, 600+ hp/tq is'nt that big of a deal in a diesel... fwellingtonfiii 11-09-2005, 10:30 AM Alright, well Ill throw in the fact the kid got his license last week, but you guys seem to be sure of the hemi winning, I guess im gonna have to get some mods, my dads good friends with the owner of a junkyard, what would you guys recommend? I want to get a supercharger (most gm 3.8 s/c's will work right?), new exhaust system, what else should I get? 92zcamaroperson 11-09-2005, 10:35 AM diesels scare me..... Savage Messiah 11-09-2005, 11:27 AM you are thinking of the blower on the GTP and Regal GS?? if so there are many different internals between that engine and ours. Also you won't fit it without cutting the cowl and windshield. Check out www.fullthrottlev6.com for a good idea of what people are doing with v6's Rally Sport 11-09-2005, 08:06 PM Him just getting his liscence a week ago isnt anything.. anyone can just step on the gas and go. Savage Messiah 11-10-2005, 02:56 AM Rally you have obviously never really raced, the launch is key, and you dont just mash the gas and go. fwellingtonfiii 11-10-2005, 06:23 AM Yeah Ive heard that the best idea is to rev up to 2000rpm while holding the brake and on the takeoff let off brake and floor it, is that a good idea? kinda like a tq converter? Rally Sport 11-10-2005, 09:23 AM Rally you have obviously never really raced, the launch is key, and you dont just mash the gas and go. He wasnt talking about racing, he just said he got his liscence a week a go, and with that much HP over the Camaro I dont think he has to get much of a good launch. Savage Messiah 11-10-2005, 12:44 PM I do, with enough of a shitty launch a Kia can go and beat Mr. Luos Rally Sport 11-10-2005, 06:17 PM I do, with enough of a shitty launch a Kia can go and beat Mr. Luos Ofcourse, Curtis's car isnt running right now. Matt365 11-10-2005, 07:46 PM model T could beat luos right now :D Savage Messiah 11-10-2005, 08:02 PM fine then it could beat John philly rs 11-12-2005, 10:16 AM the best mod u can do to beat that thing in a 3.8 is go grab a different car all together... or u can spend a ton of money like i did to rebuild the 3.8 and spray the piss out of it, get a turbo or a s/c. and that truck isnt so powerful that u need a great launch he can just mash on the gas and go and win that race...now when we get into the high numbers thats when u will see the spinning in one spot, and the truck going sideways on ya. i dont see him doing much of that, he may smoke the tires for the first few feet...but that camaro will loose fwellingtonfiii 11-12-2005, 12:30 PM http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/pickup/163_0310_trux/index2.html .....the Ram posted a nearly identical run of 15.11 seconds at 89.06..... http://allpar.com/model/ram/dodge/review-hemi.html .....acceleration from a standing stop is stunning - with quarter mile times at or under 16 seconds and 0-60 times around 7 seconds..... so now I have some ideas, that with professional drivers for a test of the car, it will run better or close numbers. Now I know my stock camaro runs about a 15.9. If the first article is right, and I need a little under a second off my time, I dont think I'm gonna need to blow a ton of cash right? And if the second article is right, it would be a very close race, right? I'm just thinking outloud, what are everyone elses' thoughts on this? bag91 11-12-2005, 02:50 PM Not bad.....I want the SRT 10!!!!! Sweet philly rs 11-12-2005, 04:14 PM do u know how much a second off your time will cost u? hell people spent 1-2k for .7 sec off their time vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
