This applies to petrol, diesel, electric whatever propels you down the road. The numbers that decide how quickly you get to that speed are foot pounds of torque. Torque is the thing that pushes you back in your seat. When you push the gas pedal to the floor and your vehicle takes off - that's torque. Horsepower is what takes you into the triple digits with the RPM maxing out. (not really but that's the easiest way to explain it) In most gasoline (petrol) powered machines the numbers are pretty much square meaning they match. In diesel, however, the torque is almost always much higher than the horsepower. So the 2.7 is rated as having 99 HP but performs the same as a gasoline engine rated with 160 HP. Here endeth today's lesson. :-) Nissan Terrano specs: _____________________________ Engine 2,663cc TD27T Horse Power (hp/rpm) 99/4000 Torque (lb-ft/rpm) 159/2200 Gas Tank (l) 80 Top Mileage (km/l) (AT/MT) 16.5/17.5 Weight (kg) (AT/MT) 1790/1770 Length*Width*Height (cm) 436*169*168 jimbo3172 06-07-2007, 01:46 PM Hi guys, just joined and can't work out how to start a new thread.
