After hearing multiple people say it's okay, I did it and for eight months it was great. Then it didn't want to shift into overdrive, then it was losing power and making odd shifts, then it popped into nuetral occassionaly, then it completely died. 1400 bucks for a new transmission, and my car isn't worth much more than that, so good-bye 240SX.

I'm 95% sure that unplugging the transmission fluid pressure regulator escalated the problem.

Just a friendly word of warning....unplug it for the track if you want to....but it CAN hurt your car.

Do you have any pictures of what went wrong or any info on exactly what part fails on the transmission?

No idea really, don't know much about transmissions. But they said that for sure the whole tranny needed to be replaced.
