Drive Belt squeakrruddfan21 11-03-2005, 02:44 PM hey guys!! got the car running. only other problem i have is that alternator/water pump belt is squeaking after it starts up. when i give it throttle, the squeak goes away. tension seems right. any ideas on how to adjust it or if it is ok? thanks!! gumby_ct 11-08-2005, 12:47 AM I thought mine was tight enuff too. Put a wrench (mine was 15/16??) on the alternator (engine OFF- RIGHT!!) - turn it 3 or 4 complete turns. If it slips - you found the problem. Guess it needs to be tighter than you would think. Mine has NOT squealed in a week now. NOW- I hear other noises I never noticed before. Happy balance between snug and ruining the alternator bearing. Guess you could also put a straight edge on the belt between water pump and crack pulley. If your finger fits between straight edge and belt= snug it up. I used a 1x2 cuz thats all I could find small enuff to fit in there. gumby_ct 11-08-2005, 12:53 AM Yes, that should be "crank pulley". The hazards of quick reply & FAT fingers. ha- I can spell - just can't tpye!! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
