I have a 94 Metro. The radiator cooling fan isn't coming on and the car is starting to overheat. I don't know much about cars but have the Haynes manual. It said to check the fuses (i looked under the dash and all fuses look good). It said to unplug the connector and use wires to hook up to the battery. (i did and the fan came on) It says if the fan works it's then its the temp switch, fan relay, or the harness. How do I test these 3 things, and which is it most likely to be? Like I said I don't know a whole lot about this so the more specific the better. Thanks.

its the sensor you jumped across, since the fan came on the relay and fan are fine so just replace sensor

The thing I unplugged is attached to the fan motor. Can you replace that whole cord? It doesn't look like it can just be replaced. If the sensor is the part that goes into the thermostat housing then that's been replaced. Also since you've been so helpful, which way is the fan supposed to blow air? From the outside in, or the inside out? I'm thinking of running a switch into the dash. I don't want this thing to overheat.

if you short across the one going to fan motor it should blow the fuse. unplug the wire going to the sensor on the thermostat housing with the 2 wire plug. not the single wire. try jumping across it. the fan should blow from outside in or if it came on while you were going forward and it blew from inside out it wouldn;t move any air
