thermostat replacement

Im not a car genious but here it is. The thermostat is failing in my 2001 Alero 3.4 V6. The dealership is wanting to charge me $285 for the change. Even though it's a small part whichs costs only $15, he says tht the thermostat is in an area that is hard to reach. Basically its all labor. Am I getting taken here? Or should i go ahead and do it myself if it's easy enough?

I think you're getting taken for a ride. It should take less than an hour to change and even dealership labor isnt that high...really, it shouldn't cost you more than 120 or 150 bucks.
