I just bought a 2000 Honda Civic EX and I am thinking about getting Gram Lights 57pro 17x7 and probably the Yokohama Parada Spec-2 tires.(Any thoughts on this combo?) This is my daily driver. I would like to drop it around 2", anyone recommend any suspension inparticular? I've read that koni's are very good, usually referring to the yellows.

Also, is tirerack expensive? The Gram Lights are $383 x 4 and the tires are $85.. just seems high on the wheels. Total would be $1,872 before tax and shipping :eek7:. Anyone recommend somewhere else(besides ebay)?

For that price I would go with a 16x7" SSR competition wheel which is forged and probably cheaper. With 17s you start running into clearance issues and tires get more expensive and of course the whole package gets heavier.

I originally thought only 18's had clearance problems, and I don't necessarily need those wheels. I have always liked Gram Lights and SSR Comps... and they are definitely cheaper than the likes of say.. Advan, for example. But I definitely need feedback, and so now I know I should go with 16's. Of the selection TireRack gave for my car, those I like the best. What are a few other places to look at wheel & tire combo's? WheelMax seems like a good one, and the motegi's are nice but they don't come in 16's... well, not from wheelmax at least. Any other ideas on wheels other than SSR? And which Koni's should I get in your opinion, if any?

Personally i like Rota and Konig rims because they're cheap, reliable, and they come in sooo many styles that you will probably find a set you like.

if youre going to drop money on some nice wheels, please save yourself the annoyance and stay at 16" or less, maybe even 15" 17's are just too big for performance. i have 17's on my civic and everyday i wish I had 15" maybe 16" SSR are pretty nice. the reason why they are so expensive is because they are very light. which is what you want in a performance wheel. if i had the money i would buy 15" SSR's

Yeah, I agree with alphalanos on this one. I have 17" on my 1993 civic del sol, and everyday I drive it, I wish i never bought 17". They look cool, but they're too heavy. Dont make the same mistake I did... trust me I whould go with 15" or maybe 16" depends on what u like best...

For the street I would NOT go with SRR Comps. They are fragile wheels and tend to bend and damage A LOT easier than mostother wheels. Some fellow AUto-X'ers have gone through up to 3 wheels of Comps within a year time from the streets here around LA. I would personally go with a wheel that isn't made from soft metal, and something that's both light weight and proven reliable and dependable. Rota for example. Yes they are knock off wheels, but they are pretty damn strong, light in most cases and very inexpensive, esp. if you ever need to replace any. I got my 16x7 Rota Grids for $450 plus tax for ALL 4 wheels. Gram Lights are very nice wheels though, but they are pretty expensive anywhere you get them from, so there's no avoiding that with those wheels. Also 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels are very nice, similar to the Gram Lights, about the same weight (slightly heavier) and I believe cheaper as well in price. They are another proven race worthy wheel just like the Gram Lights.

Tire Rack is an excellent shop to purchase from, I got my current set of tires from them. :sunglasse

I like the look of bigger rims so i purchased some 17" rims. Since my car never see's a track I didnt want to pay a grand for super light rims. I got Exel TZ-10 rims and Toyo Proxes 4 tires. Together they weigh in at 36 lb 14 oz. I know that's not the lightest wheel/tire combo but i love the look.

So what's and average total weight for 15" rims and tires?

Well yeah its all your preference. We're just all addicted to performance thats all. If you like them, keep them. Well 15's can range from 8lbs per wheel to like 20 i guess. Average maybe 13-16. Its just that lighter wheels are better for performance, they stay on the road better, accelerate/break better, tires are alot cheaper, they are harder to dent bc they have more tire around them, and the fast that they are a smaller circle makes them stronger, at least it should somewhat.And your car will look better when you lower it.
