Custom 1/12 Revell Camaro Z/28:WIPjdmaccordian 11-01-2005, 05:32 PM I ordered tires for the wheels last night. Here's a mock up of for the ride height, it will probably be a little higher in the front. I just finished stripping the orange-peeled and chipped metallic red paint from the previous owner. I plan to paint Tamiya Black Metallic Pearl w/ Gunmetal Z/28 racing stripes (to match the wheels). This project will take a while because of all the custom stuff I hope to do. Please let me know of any ideas or suggestions you all may have. Thanks. http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/3458/imgp1229crop9ye.th.jpg (http://img185.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp1229crop9ye.jpg) DJ_Merle 11-01-2005, 05:37 PM Looking forward to seeing this done! white97ex 11-01-2005, 05:47 PM I can't wait for the re-release. Hopefully I've got the cash to pick one up from the first wave. I want to do a pro-touring edition. I have plans on creating the wheels and all..........looking forward to some progress on this one. MustangMuscle 11-01-2005, 09:27 PM It is a nice model, too bad it is too big, I would buy two or three too... jdmaccordian 11-09-2005, 12:27 AM Added tires and rotors I picked up some 1.25" stainless washers to see how they would look and they have a lot of potential! I plan to cross-drill them w/ a 1/16" bit. The "tires" are actually ABS plastic R/C drifting tires. I will sand them down a bit and it will prove to be a well-spent $5! I've never worked with styrene before but I realize I will need to for this project. My local LHS closed and I have no where to look for this stuff. I need thin sheets, tubing, and hex tubing. What is a good place to look? Or are there any good substitutes? Thanks. http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/2821/imgp12372cf.th.jpg (http://img235.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12372cf.jpg) http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/825/imgp12387wt.th.jpg (http://img235.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12387wt.jpg) white97ex 11-09-2005, 08:06 AM im loving the wheels and the stance. the sidewalls need cleaned up on those tires tho...but hey, atleast you found something useable! for the styrene check out towerhobbies.com and hobbylinc.com they are stateside. hobbylinc.com offers better prices than tower. but don't have as wide a variety if you are buying things like paint as well 1986Z28 11-09-2005, 03:21 PM looks cool so far, are the wheels your using the same size they look to big jdmaccordian 11-09-2005, 04:24 PM They are the same size (52mm). I know they are a bit big but it's impossible to find after market wheels for 1/12 kits. R/C wheels are the closest. Once I fine-tune the ride height and tires, I think they will look better. jdmaccordian 12-09-2005, 11:14 AM finished body work (sanded off emblems and side markers). I will order the PE detail kit from ModelCarGarage soon. I was able to put the first few layers of primer on last night, before the snow fell :( I hope to post updated pics tonight... jdmaccordian 12-14-2005, 12:00 AM update: Lots of body work...I shaved all the emblems, side markers, wipers, etc. I have the Model Car Garage photo-etch kit on the way. Problem w/ painting though. I've layed down several coats of primer, followed by sanding and puttying. I spray compressed air over the pieces right before I paint to remove any last minute dust. This system has worked nicely before but now I get these little microhairs at the bottom of the body. Any ideas? Entire body shot: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2135/imgp12612ds.th.jpg (http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12612ds.jpg) Close-up of body: http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/9078/imgp12624hp.th.jpg (http://img277.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12624hp.jpg) primera man 12-14-2005, 01:16 AM Look forward to seeing our the progress goes on this one......makes me want to start on mine again!! quadzero 12-14-2005, 01:36 AM everything looks good so far, looking forward to more. i would love this kit. before you paint, do you wipe everything down with a tack cloth? i've never had this problem before but maybe the body picked up some static electricity. im not really sure if this is in your case but sometimes i've noticed my bodies really attracting lint, but luckily i would catch it in time. anywho, keep up the good work. white97ex 12-14-2005, 07:46 AM everything looks good so far, looking forward to more. i would love this kit. before you paint, do you wipe everything down with a tack cloth? i've never had this problem before but maybe the body picked up some static electricity. im not really sure if this is in your case but sometimes i've noticed my bodies really attracting lint, but luckily i would catch it in time. anywho, keep up the good work. I would do away with the compressed air and use tack cloth, just as quad zero recommends. jdmaccordian 12-14-2005, 10:12 AM I painted on the deck last night and put a plastic drop cloth underneath it all. Do you think the plastic on the deck had anything to do with it, maybe some static? It's just such a big body, I had to lay out something. I'll sand all this stuff down and try to prime again. This time using a tack cloth and no compressed air to see if that makes a difference. Ralphlovs1969Cars 12-14-2005, 12:39 PM When these cars come wrapped in the plastic bag and you remove it, it causes static electricity. remember these cars are big so the more you rub on them the more electricity they get.It Should not be a problem removing it. Next time get ride of the plastic bag when painting , i think is what really caused your problem, not the compressed air.Looking nice so far.... keep us posted. jdmaccordian 01-21-2006, 09:22 PM I've got a few interior updates. The body is almost ready for Metallic Black Pearl. I'm just waiting for a warmer and dryer day. http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5753/imgp12939kq.th.jpg (http://img35.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12939kq.jpg) The interior is almost done... -have to add black streaks to complete the center console woodgrain -add silver trim on the center console (bezels and 4-speed layout) and dash -redo 4-speed layout to shift knob -add rest of photoetch interior details (dash gauges) -paint shifter shaft silver http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8885/imgp12980rw.th.jpg (http://img35.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12980rw.jpg) http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9914/imgp12998ck.th.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp12998ck.jpg) Let me know what you guys think...THANKS. jdmaccordian 01-24-2006, 12:39 PM The hood has warped (not sure how) but that's how I received it from the original owner. One corner sticks up when all other corners are flush w/ the body. Any ideas on how to remedy this? white97ex 01-24-2006, 05:40 PM you can try and heat it with steam from a boiling pot of water and try and "unwarp" it. otherwise you will have to order a replacement from revell, or hope someone made a new one and has an old one. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
