92 Xlt/ Is It Worth The Repairs???martinfan6 10-28-2005, 10:20 PM Just bought a 92 Explorer XLT a couple of weeks ago.It has new alternator, radiator, exaust, heater core, rebuilt tranny and brakes, but the ABS light stays on,they work fine? It is going to need new shocks and maybe other parts not known yet, till checked. Also, now that i had driven it in the rain, i need tires also. The 4 wheel drive works fine as i checked it on a steep hill. Also could use a tune up but it runs like a rapped ape! It has 187,500 miles on it, the price was right, and i'm only the third owner.Interior and exterior are in perfect conddition. I love this truck, but having second thoughts now! I want to keep it, but it'll cost probally another $1000 or so for all repairs. What do you think??? Only paid $900 for it!!What would a rebuilt motor cost to put in if needed down the road? XLT03 10-29-2005, 12:52 AM ABS light could be a loose wire connector that goes into the left side of the reservoir. It kinda hangs out there and if the tabs/tangs of the plastic clip is broken the wire can slide out of the other end. Shocks are cheap you can do them yourself or have Sears or someone replace them for you. Wouldn't consider engine replacement, too costly unless you do it yourself and even then you really have to love this vehicle. Run it till it drops. I have a 92 also with 149.000 and still running. martinfan6 10-29-2005, 06:58 AM Thanks XLT03 for the info. on the ABS problem! I will run it till it drops, think i"ll invest alittle more to keep her safe.See i can't preform much work myself because of back problems, have to have mechanic do my jobs now. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
