My 1999 Chevy venture has been good up until this point. Firstly I had my venture shipped to a foreign country because I am teacher here. I noticed this problem when I put gas in the car. When I fill up the tank the check engine light comes on and the car starts to hesitate and chug. I notice this every time I put gas in the van. I took it to the GM dealer and they first replaced the solienoid said it was bad solienoid but problem still happens. They did a full diagnostic and it read negative sometimes and sometimes it did not. Now I was told that it may have to do with the force motor. All I know is the check engine light comes on when gas is put in and goes off after a day or so then comes back on this happens often. No one here seems to have a clue as to what it is Can someone HELP!! besides thing it runs Wonderful seems to be a good van just cannot figure out this problem.

When the check engine light comes on, that means a code has been stored in the computer. Knowing what that code is key to helping diagnose the problem.

Are you here in the states or in another country? If here in the states, many autopart stores will read the codes for free. I don't know if other countries do similar.

Whenever I hear about problems relating to just after filling up, I always think "Replace gas cap". There is a common problem where the cap either isn't on all the way or doesn't seal properly. This throws off the emissions system and is an easy/cheap fix. This may or may not be your problem.

just a stab here - if you are in a different country, are the gas grades different there? maybe you has crap gas where you live.

replacing the fuel cap may help also

The gas cap is a good guess based upon the symptoms described.

The codes is of course the best tool for diagnosing the problem

The gasoline quality is a good thought but it doesn't really explain why the problem clears up after a day or two. (The gas quality should be consistent through the entire tank)

OK thank you for all your replies I will try the gas cap replacement. However, I do have one more question what is a Force motor can anyone explain in detail what this is. Oh and on other question I was driving yesterday for about an hour or so and The van started to make a whinning noise, Now my soleniod has already been replaced so I do not have a clue as to what this whinning noise is you feel the car shifting into gear but it does jerk slightly when it does this, but check engine light does not come on. I am asking all these questions because me and my wife and kids will be taking a 9 hour car trip in this van and I would like to know if this issue is a break down issue the mechanic assured me it is not but I just am not buying it. BUt the van drives great with the exception to these problems can someone reply immediatly.
