4.8 oil97cavalier 10-25-2005, 07:43 PM I am getting ready to change the oil in my 99 silverado with the 4.8 motor. I called the local auto parts store and they said it holds 6 quarts of oil. Is this true? I don't see how this could be if a ls1 olnly holds 5.5 quarts. 2000CAYukon 10-25-2005, 07:47 PM I think the oil pan is different in the trucks/suvs. My 2000 Yukon with the 5.3 takes 6 quarts. //2000CAYukon 98vert6spd 10-25-2005, 07:51 PM Ls1 Hold 6.5 Quarts 97cavalier 10-25-2005, 10:34 PM Ls1 Hold 6.5 Quarts 6.5 quarts??? I have a 2000 trans am and i have the ls1 and it holds 5.5 and it is full. All though you might have a diffrent year and it might hold a diffrent amount. But my ls1 holds 5.5 quarts. And to get back on subject i just changed the oil in my silverado and it does hold 6 quarts. it puts it right on the full mark. LongIslander26 10-25-2005, 11:46 PM 6.5 quarts??? Put 5 in it, start the motor, shut it off after a minute, check the stick, and see where it is. If you need more, add it, if not, you're done.
