i'm new to this forum so thanks in advance for any help. i have a 95 4x4 with about 120000 miles on it. very reliable until recently, old age i guess. the engine cranks but there is no spark from the coil. i replaced the coil, checked the asd relay, and replaced cap, rotors, plugs, and wires when i replaced the fuel pump last year. the check engine light also does not come on when the key is turned. i've researched several threads and i believe it is a sensor problem. not sure how to go about tracking which sensor though. I've also checked the wiring harness under the windshield washer resevoir and the wires are like new. that was identified as a problem in this vehicle.

i checked that website. great info but mainly for 2.2 and 2.4l 4cyl fuel injected engines. there are no reference codes for a crankshaft position sensor problem. is there another site with dakota information? thanks.

I don't know much about Gen2 Dakotas like the one you have. But if you post your question at these forums, there's guys who know a lot about the older Dak.

I would be looking at the pickup coil in the distributor or the crank sensor.

thanks for the help. i'm working on sensors first before i try the pcm. since i have no check engine light to give me codes, i'm waiting for a friend to ehlp pull codes out of the pcm to narrow things down. i'll post when i figure it all out. thanks for the websites, i'll review them also.

i found the problem. there was a corroded splice in the wiring harness under the fuse block in the engine compartment. to narrow it down i found out the following. i had no spark to the coil, no spark to the pickup coil (cam sensor - hall effect same thing), no power thru fuse 13 in the cab, no power to the smec pin 7, and no check engine light. I had to remove all of the tape around the wires, cleaned up the corrosion, and reconnected the wire splice (3 to 1 splice). thanks for all the help.
