96 lx timing beltviperone 10-24-2005, 05:46 PM I have a question about installing the timing belt. When you install the belt, the manual says to set your crakshaft geat and the camshaft gear at TDC...done. Next you tightly install the belt starting at the crakshaft gear, then the tensioner, water pump, then the camshaft pulley. After this you loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and put tension on the belt. When this happens, it rotates the crankshaft geat about 3 teeth of TDC. The manual says after you do all this to make sure both are still at TDC, if not to do it all over again. This could be a neverending cycle here. Am I doing something wrong? This will happen everytime because of where the slack in the timing belt is, right? I need some help here please??? viperone sohcfreak97 10-24-2005, 10:45 PM just line both pulley's up.....throw the belt on....loosen the tensioner(cause u should have the bolt tightened so its not tensioning)tighten the tensioner back up, rotate the crank 1 full cycle (so its back at TDC on both cam and crank) loosen the tensioner...and then retighten...then checking for any extra slack... superbluecivicsi 10-25-2005, 12:05 AM when you move it 3 teeths, that is the tightening phase. it PROPERLY tightens the belt up. after that tighten the tensioner. then rotate it fully back to TDC and check for slack. also, setting it back to tdc helps with putting the key and crank pulley back in easier. if you did the tightening process according to the above and the manual, you should have no problem the belt being too tight or too loose. viperone 10-25-2005, 11:37 AM Thanks for the info guys.....I'll try that and see what happens. viperone vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
