Ok, so I'm crusing along last night following my friend in his SRT-4. I notice that the car in front of me is a Grand National, driven by a young kid. My friend is in the lane next to me and is up next to the GN. I am almost yelling in my car "Phil look to your right you retard, there's a Grand National, run him!" but he never did. We are all 3 pulling up to a stoplight when my friend gets into the left lane to flip a U-turn and head back the other way. I pull up in his spot at the light next to the Grand National and call my friend and tell him "Hey i'm gonna go up a bit and run this Grand National" "That was a Grand National next to me? DAMMIT!" and his light turned green and he left. So I hung up and looked over. It was a younger guy, he didn't really look over at me, I was starting to get disappointed, I didn't think he would want to run 'em. The light finally turns green so I get on it a bit to let him know i'm here. He immediatly gets on it as well and pulls up next to me with a big grin on his face and is looking over nodding at me. I nod back, and downshift to 2nd at around 40mph. I mouth "GO" and he guns it, so do I. I was expecting to get pulled, but to my suprise I'm dead even with him, even pulling a little bit. At around 85mph my car shifts into 3rd (Auto) and I start pulling harder, and I shut down at 105 and he was about 3 feet behind my rear bumper. I was expecting to get killed, I just wanted to see a GN run, but to my suprise I actually won. I'm unsure of the year, or what mods he had, but it was definatly a GN. I could hear the turbo, it had all the badges and the cowl hood.

Cliffnotes: Barely beat a GN.

Wow, that's an awesome race man. :evillol:

Do you forget that you got a 300hp GTO...? :smokin: What do you think is gonna happen...? Yeah the GTO is heavy, but umm..300hp shows its face when you romp it..

Good going, and nice car man...that baby can hit high 12's without even touching the internals i've read... :lol2: :nono: :evillol:

'04s are 350hp using the LS1.

Good kill. Rock stock GN's ran a 14 sec. 1/4 mile, so they're not the fastest stock. Of course they are VERY easy to mod, and respond better then most cars to aftermarket goodies. I'd buy one, but talk about overpriced. Sheesh, they sell for like $12K used.

Sounds like a nice run, don't underestimate your GTO...they are quite capable. Nice to see you come out on top.

Very good battle of the GM's.

Cool to see you kill a GN dude. Nice run.

He meant, "good to see you kill a GN, dude"
not "good to see you kill a GN dude"
That comma makes all the difference.

Good kill, man. You've got a beast in that GTO. My friend wasn't even able to pull away from one in his lightly modded e46 M3 (I don't know if it was the '04 or '05 GTO...there's a 50HP difference). And most of us forget that stock GN's do 14.0s-high 13s, since 9 out of 10 we see on the road / track do 10s all day.

exactly as everyone said, stock they aren't monsters, but modded they become beasts quite quickly. Our local car show always attracts a handful of GNs and GNXs in the 8-10 second range. Absolutely awesome to listen/watch them leave at the end of the night.
Anyway, nice kill, congrats

It's funny how a car (like the GN) when new was considered a monster even in stock form because face it, back in the mid to late 80's getting 200+ HP from a V6 was not very common turbocharged or otherwise, and it gave a lot of smogged out V8 powered rides a run for their money back in those days. Granted today 200 HP is more common in N/A 4 bangers but only because of the technology advancements that were made. But a bone stock GN designated as mediocre in today's world should be considered blasphemy, back in their day they were considered the shit much like the 60's musclecars were, and nobody calls them mediocre but yet by todays performance standards they are. Sure stock for stock the newer stuff can run circles around them but don't put them down just because they are now slow compared to the cars of today, they were the technology leaders of their time and really should be appreciated as such.

they are. but i wouldnt assume i would loose to a gn in a LS1 350hp

i would think "could be modded" i see them runing mid 14's all day stock at the track.
