Grand Am GT vs. Scion tCDigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 09:50 AM It was raining out yesterday as I drove into work. Not a driving rain, but enough to keep the roads slick on this chilly mid-October day. As I was cruising, I came up behind a Scion tC. At that time, I thought it'd be best to turn on my fogs to make myself better seen in the rain and did so as I passed the Scion on the left. It wasn't until after I saw the Scion in my rer view aggressively moving through traffic to get up beside me did I realize that he took me turning on the fogs as some indication that I wanted to race. The light turned yellow at the intersection ahead as I slowed to stop. Scion driver moves next to me and cranks his stereo to eardrum-smashing decibel levels. It sounded like crap; I couldn't make out what he was listening to so I turned up my Monsoon system just loud enough to cancel his noise out. Stopped at the light, he started revving his engine and bouncing off his rev limiter. I looked over to see a brat behind the wheel turning his ball cap around while sneering at me, then looking straight ahead while drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as he continued to rev. This is usually the point when I ignore the other driver, given the slick road conditions...but then I thought about how he'd probably log onto some internet forum and brag about how he beat a Grand Am GT. Besides, what are the odds that I get to line up against a Scion tC? I decided to make an exception. I checked to make sure my Enhanced Traction System (ETS) was engaged, waved bye-bye to the brat in the Scion, and when the light turned green, I eased the accelerator to the floor. As expected, my LOW TRAC light came on almost immediately and I felt the engine bog slightly as the ETS took over. It quickly calculated the opimal gearing and engine power, and no sooner did I notice the bog in engine power did the car start pulling with authority, pushing the tires to the threshhold of breaking free. The brat in the Scion had the jump on me off the line, hitting it while it was still red and about to turn green. When my ETS first kicked in, he actually edged ahead...but once my ETS got the tires hooked up, I moved up past him and he started spinning his wheels wildly trying to keep up. I'd imagine he must've spun them even worse when he hit 2nd as I saw the front of his car shift to the side as he kept getting smaller in my rear view. In the few seconds it took me to hit 60 MPH I put a lot of room between me and him, then I backed off to a safer speed for the wet road and cruised. Up ahead was another intersection. I could see that the light had turned yellow. Behind me, the Scion driver was gaining on me fast. He must've been doing 80 and accelerating. I lifted up off the gas as I prepared to slow, and he was beside me when the light turned red. He passed me all right, and I had a nice view of his ABS system at work. He glided right into the middle of the intersection. Fortunately for him, the driver of a minivan going one way and the driver of a taxi cab going the other way managed to stop before smashing his car in two different directions simultaniously. They were laying on their horns, telling him with their hand gesture that he was #1. He looked back to me, I gave him a "Tsk-tsk" look as I shook my finger at him. Sheepishly, he turned left in front of the cab and sped off. Cliff notes: Brat in a Scion tC wants to race Grand Am GT in the rain, gets owned by GM's ETS, almost causes a 3 car accident when trying to do a rice boy fly-by. Notes for those with reading comprehension difficulties and/or A.D.D.: He wanted to race me. I won, he lost. He almost crashed. clawhammer 10-23-2005, 10:36 AM It wasn't until after I saw the Scion in my rer view aggressively moving through traffic to get up beside me did I realize that he took me turning on the fogs as some indication that I wanted to race. Turning on fogs is not an indication of wanting to race. And you could hear it over two stereos turned up to the max? :screwy: but then I thought about how he'd probably log onto some internet forum and brag about how he beat a Grand Am GT. Yeah, like people have nothing better to do than to brag about beating a 4-door family sedan...:disappoin Besides, what are the odds that I get to line up against a Scion tC? Actually the odds are pretty good since Toyota sold quite a few of these cars. You're treating it as if it were a Supra. Like what are the chances of me lining up next to a Supra I decided to make an exception. Do you work for GM? Are you trying to sell something? The brat in the Scion had the jump on me off the line, hitting it while it was still red and about to turn green. Maybe your reaction was just really slow. When my ETS first kicked in, he actually edged ahead... Ahh, the beaty of ETS or whatever that crap is called. :shakehead: Notes for those with reading comprehension difficulties and/or A.D.D.: Way to go on insulting people on this forum :disappoin karll 10-23-2005, 10:52 AM wow, you just got kicked in the balls. DigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 10:58 AM Turning on fogs is not an indication of wanting to race. That's what I thought. And you could hear it over two stereos turned up to the max? :screwy: My stereo was not turned up to the max; if you noticed, I indicated that it was raining; hence, his windows were up which meant I only had to turn it up a bit to cancel out his noise. His exhaust pipe and engine are outside of the cabin of the car and, when revved to the rev limiter, I assure you that it can quite clearly be heard. Yeah, like people have nothing better to do than to brag about beating a 4-door family sedan...:disappoin And yet, they do...imagine that! It baffles the mind! Actually the odds are pretty good since Toyota sold quite a few of these cars. You're treating it as if it were a Supra. Like what are the chances of me lining up next to a Supra Lining up against anyone who wants to race a car like that so badly in the rain; seriously, what are the odds of that? Do you work for GM? Are you trying to sell something? Uh...sure, bud...I'm working for GM, marketing a 3 year old car that is in its last year of sales and no longer being produced...what marketing genius, I'm stunned you figured it out. Can't get one by you, eh? Maybe your reaction was just really slow. Yeah, that's it; I should've anticipated that he'd jump the light and do the same myself. Ahh, the beaty of ETS or whatever that crap is called. :shakehead: Just going by what's printed on the button that controls it...it clearly says ETS, right next to the hazard light button, and when I got the car, I checked the manual to discover it was an Enhanced Traction System; hence the ETS lettering on the button. Way to go on insulting people on this forum :disappoin My apologies if you felt you were insulted; my intent was to help those with disabilities. Kind of like the handicapped parking space, but in my message. ;) karll 10-23-2005, 11:17 AM touche, or tooshay for you disabled people. DigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 12:17 PM wow, you just got kicked in the balls. I think you just cross-posted from one of your fetish forums...;) -Jayson- 10-23-2005, 12:20 PM why is a scion TC such a rare opportunity? Also this whole race was retarded, your lucky he didnt crash and kill someone. What if that lady in the minivan had a baby in the back seat and he broad sided the van killing the baby? You could have seen jail time for that. That was pretty stupid to race in the rain, continue that kind of reckless and ricey street racing and i doubt you will be liked very much here. Your profile says you're 34 years old, yet you act as if you were 16. Grow up and act your age and learn how to drive safely. DigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 01:15 PM why is a scion TC such a rare opportunity? Also this whole race was retarded, your lucky he didnt crash and kill someone. What if that lady in the minivan had a baby in the back seat and he broad sided the van killing the baby? You could have seen jail time for that. I have no control over what other drivers do; I only have control over myself and my vehicle. Since I stayed within the quasi-legal speed limit and my tires stayed connected to the ground the entire time, I demonstrated full care and control of my vehicle. If there indeed was an accident, I would deny engaging the other driver in a race, you would not be reading my post, and the fact that I came to a calm, sedate stop at the light (which was witnessed by the other motorists) would have been evidence of that. I have no problem with giving brat kids enough rope to hang themselves with; I just make sure I'm not the one holding the other end when they take the bait then crash and burn. ;) That was pretty stupid to race in the rain, continue that kind of reckless and ricey street racing and i doubt you will be liked very much here. You assume I want to be your friend and well-liked here. You would assume wrong. :loser: Thank you for demonstrating how much my post pissed you off; it made my efforts in writing it worthwhile. You know what, I have better things to do than to argue with strangers over the internet. Your profile says you're 34 years old, yet you act as if you were 16. Grow up and act your age and learn how to drive safely. Again, I was driving quite safely as I explained previously, but thank you for demonstrating how much my post pissed you off as well. No one here respects this post. I doubt many people even respect you. Your a moron, your the idiot who gives street racing a bad name. Your the idiot who eggs on a 16 year old kid in the pooring rain to race. Then he crashes and kills someone and it wasnt your fault. No it was your fault stupid. Your the reason street racing laws are getting so tough. Its sad too cause normally its stupid little kids that are the problems, here is a 34 year old guy. Im not gonna say man cause your obviously not mature enough to be called one. You want to find some people that you would fit well with? Go to the local ricer spot, then you can tell them all your stupid stories. And you can listen to theres as well. But no one here wants to hear about them. You know whats ever sadder? If that kid did crash, you wouldnt even man up. Youwould puss out, run away, and hide. Id be willing to bet if you saw him slam into the back of that minivan, you would just drive off. Musashi3000GT 10-23-2005, 01:36 PM    This sound like one of those commercials you see on tv about the hybrid-Civic or the Altima 2.5 or the Lancer, where they try to make a stupid little grocery getter sound like such bad-ass street fighter. Enhanced Traction Control! dude its all cool you like your car but please understand that when you start dick-riding little shity details like that someone is bound to make fun of you! and can you blame them? you make it sound like your GrandAm is a marvel of modern engineering. now on a serious note, glad you smoked him but be carefull man if that kid would of gotten killed chance is you could of been charged with some kind of indirect-murder charge for enticing him. DigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 01:43 PM you really need a girlfriend... or something equivalent. I doubt that would go over very well with my wife; though I have had offers, she's just not too keen on the idea. ;) DigitalQuirk go watch some more FNF, this isnt what this forum is about. Or maybe just a big mouth... Your a moron, your the idiot who gives street racing a bad name. Your the idiot who eggs on a 16 year old kid in the pooring rain to race. Its sad too cause normally its stupid little kids that are the problems, here is a 34 year old guy. Im not gonna say man cause your obviously not mature enough to be called one. Wait, hold up a minute here...I give street racing a bad name? Isn't that a bit like telling an alcoholic he gives alcoholism a bad name? I'm all for tougher street racing laws, and any bit of rope I can give to the street racers with which they can use to hang themselves, I'll be more than glad to provide. Also, do bear in mind that it was the kid who wanted to race; I simply obliged. Here's some rope, son...let's see what you do with it. :iceslolan You want to find some people that you would fit well with? Go to the local ricer spot, then you can tell them all your stupid stories. And you can listen to theres as well. But no one here wants to hear about them. Great idea! Where is the local ricer spot anyway? The sushi bar, or the Chinese restaurant? Or is it down the aisle in the grocery store where they sell rice? Are all those people buying bags of rice ricers? By golly, I saw one putting a bag of rice in his car...imagine that; putting rice in a domestic car! :iceslolan You know whats ever sadder? If that kid did crash, you wouldnt even man up. Youwould puss out, run away, and hide. Id be willing to bet if you saw him slam into the back of that minivan, you would just drive off. I most certainly wouldn't just drive off; that might incriminate me. To be perfectly honest with you, I would probably get out of my car, point at him and laugh as he lay there bleeding. Except it was raining, so maybe I wouldn't get out of my car to do that. But that's just me and my heartlessness coming out. :evillol: Then I'd provide the officer on scene with a full accident report on how the kid was travelling way to fast for conditions and how the light was red. Then I'd come home, pour myself a drink, fire up the computer, and tell all you guys what an idiot he was in hopes it would piss someone like you off. Then I'd make love to my wife to take care of the big chubby I got from all that. :lol2: dude its all cool you like your car but please understand that when you start dick-riding little shity details like that someone is bound to make fun of you! and can you blame them? And it's not his fault the stupid kid went to 80 and slammed on his brakes in the rain. He's not responsible for the kids driving lessons. You're just looking to pick a fight. Musashi3000GT 10-23-2005, 01:59 PM Wow, nevermind digital. I see now why you where so taken by the race with the tC. the two cars really are very equally matched. the tc has 165hp and the Grand Am has 175. the traction thingie really did win you that race. -Jayson- 10-23-2005, 02:02 PM nope, i hate stupid people. You wouldnt be saying that if the other guy crashed into the minivan. Any other person would have said, its raining out, why the fuck would i race, thats just stupid. But he was worried about the other kid going on the internet and saying he beat a GrandAm. and i also think the only reason he won was because of the rain. TC>GA Musashi3000GT 10-23-2005, 02:11 PM But he was worried about the other kid going on the internet and saying he beat a GrandAm. and i also think the only reason he won was because of the rain. Grand Am + weight + traction control = superior wet traction. DigitalQuirk 10-23-2005, 02:23 PM Wow, nevermind digital. Yeah, my midsized family sedan does hold up quite well against a compact sport coupe. I just wish the driver of the minivan was a little slower to react for some real entertainment... :evillol: Mr. Luos 10-23-2005, 02:55 PM TC>GA Seriously?? I would think they are about even, with the Grand Am having a little better down low power. I would if one driver took both the TC and the Grand Am to the track, the Grand Am would probably run .2-.4 better consistently. Which of course is plenty easy to make up on the street. Either way, two pretty slow cars racing....anti-climatic. clawhammer 10-23-2005, 03:08 PM just wish the driver of the minivan was a little slower to react for some real entertainment... :evillol: Go die in a fucking fire so you can keep us entertained. Mine is a nice clean looking 2 door. Sporty....kinda. Never driven a TC...or any Scion for that matter, so I really don't have anything to compare it to. I like my Grand Am GT. For instance, when faced with driving down a muddy trail, doing it in a 4x4 Jeep is way more fun than doing it in a Scion or Accord. The same Jeep pales in comparison to a 2 seater roadster when it comes to carving up a mountain road. My daily driving has me in city traffic, where having good off-the-line acceleration with plenty of low-end torque, a smooth automatic transmission, a good stereo, good handling that doesn't sacrifice ride quality, and a quiet interior makes the drive much more enjoyable. I find it both highly amusing and kind of saddening that people are trying to blame digitial on the kid being a fuckbag. What's the matter guys? I have read a couple of your posts and you are a total idiot. I had an 01' GT with Ram air and the mystical ETS that you speak of and while it did have decent low end torque. Why are you racing in the middle of traffic?? And actually the TC would have easily ran with you if in dry conditions. Mediocrity 10-25-2005, 03:57 PM Why are you racing in the middle of traffic?? It's that magical hobby called street racing. And actually the TC would have easily ran with you if in dry conditions. Here we approach a golden rule of street racing. Numbers mean jack shit. Providing the TC had a good driver, They are equal cars stock for stock. Number's may not mean "jack shit" but driver's do. I should have included that. Mr. Luos 10-25-2005, 06:24 PM I had an 01' GT with Ram air and the mystical ETS that you speak of Mine is a 2001 GT and has the traction control. Not that I ever really use it unless it is snowing out. Raz_Kaz 10-26-2005, 01:41 AM I call BS!! :iceslolan once again you are in a STREET RACING forum....so what are you doing here again????.......it was a kid who wanted to race you.....uhhhhhhhh......pretty much anybody that races a guy in his mid 30s is going to be a kid.........do bear in mind 90% of the people that street race are usually under the age of 40......lol.........VTEC.....oh sorry I mean ETC....
