A Series of Issues with my 95 GT Convertible

Well I finally got bit by the Mustang Bug and bought a 95 GT Convertible 5 speed about 2 days ago. Though in hind sight I should have more thoroughly looked over the car, I needed one that day and here I am more than 100 miles from my home.

Problem 1: Heater doesn't work. I've check all the systems, has plenty of Freon, Car warms up in time, its just when I put on the heater it is hot for 5 seconds and then it blows cold. Anybody have any ideas?
Would reverse flushing the heater core work?

Problem 2: Engine just started to quit at idle. I had my mother put gas in it (I know big mistake, but she wanted to drive it with a passion, and I can't argue) When she went to start it, the engine idled for approx 5 seconds and then proceeded to die. After 3 tries and a lead foot I got it to start. Since she put in 87 octane I thought some octane booster might help, so far so good. I also read that cleaning my IAC might help. Could that be it?

The only other thing that I did to the engine was change the oil and added Seafoam to the oil, just like every other engine I work on.

Flushing the heater core separately from the rest of the cooling system will help.
