49 merc lead sledsideshowscrappy 10-22-2005, 06:41 PM This is my new project guys. I'm going back to my roots here cause I have alwaysed loved old school lead sleads and mild customs. I am a youngster of only 23 but the love for these cars spread to me from my father. He owned a 51 merc bomb. and thats where my love for the sleds began. anyway this is the AMT 49 merc kit. I am doing a mild custom sled job on it. so far I have shaved the side moldings and the handles, also shaved off the peak line on the hood. I am going to be using the stock flathead in it of course. also you can get a sneak peak at the color on this one on the side skirts. that is just the first mist coat of paint. anyway here are the pics......................*Ryan* http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/sideshowscrappy/49merc2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/sideshowscrappy/49merc.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/sideshowscrappy/49merc3.jpg cooltc2004 10-22-2005, 06:53 PM looks awesome! ol' dude 10-22-2005, 08:17 PM Looks to be a cool project! The ol' skool stuff has so much character you can't help to like them! Good luck with the build! Make sure the skirts are on the correct side before you glue!!!!!!!!!!! sideshowscrappy 10-22-2005, 08:32 PM lol ya I know ol'dude. I just threw them on there for the pic and wasn't payin attention, lol. Thanks for the comments guys. Ya these old cars do have an abundance of character to them. You don't have to add anything to them really cause the lines and flow is already there. anyway I will keep you guys updated on this build...........*Ryan* ol' dude 10-22-2005, 08:36 PM I guess maybe thats why I like to build the ol' stuff!! Very cool and something you don't see on the streets everyday!! GvEman 10-23-2005, 07:37 AM looks like a good start. Dean23 10-23-2005, 08:08 PM looking good. man you build lots of kits. KEep the good work coming sideshowscrappy 10-23-2005, 08:35 PM A short update on this one guys. I put the base coat on the body today and unfortunately it didn't like the primer that I used and cracked all over the place. Never had the problem before with this primer base coat combo. But anyway the body is in the dunk tank right now. I have also decided to do a ghost scallops scheme on the side and rear trunk lid on this. So I have the 2-tone base scheme on the trunk lid but the wheather is really cold here right now so the kandy will have to wait until tommorow. I hope this scheme turns out the way I want it to. The engine is also almost done and work to the interior tub has started to accomidate the channel job. anyway I hope you guys are interested in this one....................*Ryan* sideshowscrappy 10-23-2005, 08:37 PM LOL ya I do build a lot of kits Dean.
