i was just wondering if anybody knows how much would a shop charge for an engine swap on average?

it will cost from $300-1000 depending on the shop and location. for example, if you live in Idaho, it will probably cost 1k. but in cali, it will only range in the 300-500. here's a better idea, by a do-it-yourselfer.

yeah, do it yourself...get a picker..a helms, read a bunch of webpages on it (they are endless). it isnt as hard as you would think. just think of it as changine your oil...only harder..ok bad annalogy...

ya, i swapped my engine using only an adjustable wrench! you can do it.

i don't think i would be able to do that. i think you would at least some mechanical skills. how long do you think it would take for a inexperienced person to do it?

depends on the swap :D. What is required, replacing axels, and mounts and such adds to your price.

It depends on the swap you want to do. A B16a or a B18c are the most popular swap and the most easy ones to do. If you have the money to spend on the labor then have someone else do it. Well someone that you can trust. The swaps are not that hard, but are a bit chalanging. Just remember to get all the parts you need before you start pulling your motor out. You can get a "complete swap" from the junk yard, but bet on it that you will need something else to go with it. All you have to do is do your homework before you start. Good luck. stefan525

oh dude, if you have never dont it before i would say four days TOPS. it really isnt that hard. just make a plan before you do it. know exactly what has to be done in an order. you should be fine.

and that thing about the adjustable wrench is true. it doesnt take many tools to do the job.

I thought you had to remove the old axles doesn't that require more then an adjustable wrench ? :)

i was bullshitting because everyone was making it sound feasible with only a little amount of experince and a book. it is an ENGINE swap, would you want to try this without a mechanic sitting behind you telling you exactly what to do? shit i had enough trouble trying to install my cai by myself to realize i would never be doing anything much more complicated than that...maybe im just an idiot but i still think my intake sounds funny..hehe, im sure if would be much easier to do if i had the right tools though..
