Finally, I'm close to finishingprong2002 10-22-2005, 03:11 AM This 1988 K1500 Silverado has given me a rash of problems all @ about 160,000 mi (starter, heater core, alternator all went bad). When I started on it I wasn't too familiar with engines electrical systems and accessories. Now I have a firm understanding of everything in a car. I started replacing sensors to vanquish the black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Next I checked the timing belt where I caused a big rash of more problems because I broke the oil pan gasket. I ended up tearing apart the front 4x4 axle and tie rod/centerlink assembly to get to the oil pan (in the middle of Michigan Winter with no garage). When I put it back together I messed up the time (the rotor was off by about 180 degrees). After this all happened I had to learn a great deal about setting the time without having the engine started. In the process I ended up making the fuel problem worse by shorting out the computer and the fuel relay (changing battery cables). In the process of fixing the fuel problem I rebuilt the TBI, pulled the gas tank down, re-grounded the gas tank, re-grounded the computer (now check engine light is coming on when you start the truck), lifted gas tank up. Now after having everything nearly wrapped up I go out for a test drive and get some blue spark coming out of the engine compartment. Hopefully, I don't have to go to the auto parts store to pick up some new wires. All in all, the black smoke is gone at least :-) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
