A friend is just about to purchase a EDM Civic VTi. The Engine Code is D16a2 -xxxxxxxxxxxx

Which model is this?
Is this the top of the range one or does he need the B16Ax - xxxxxxxx Engine.
The latter is what I have in My gen4 civic.

The car is a 1997 Civic 1.6 VTi

I think you misread the engine code. B16A2 is the correct code for the VTi. If it really is a D16 then it's not a VTi.
