Again, it is supposed to be a jdm type r engine. and i have two days to inspect it. if you guys can think of anything else that i can check please post it. it does has the type r intake manifold and lsd tranny.

Whats the exact code and engine number stamped into the block?

b18c....i read on a websight that jdm motors have no number after the letters (like b18c5)....is this true?

i dont have the number in front of me it is at my shop....i can post it tomarrow. is that a serial number or a standard number that is on all of the same type of engines....and is the number your asking about under the b18c stamp?

Thats it.
Directly under under the B18c stamp on the same flat surface should be the engine number.
I believe I can find the numbers that corospond to the ITR engines.
Other things to look for of course are a red valve cover, and a quite differnt single runner inlet manifold. (its the easiest way to spot a fake)

what do i look for on the single runner inlet manifold???

You look for a single runner inlet manifold!
The standard VTi-R teg in Japan uses the same inlet manifold as the GSR in the states (funny that, thier the same car). But the Type R, like the Type R in the US uses a differnt inlet.
If your engine has the standard dual runner inlet manifold then its clearly not an ITR engine.
But if it has a differnt manifold, with only single runners going to each port then its more than likely from an ITR. (although they are sometimes put on lesser engines).

or if you're building it.....look at the #'s on the pistons......if you're able to...... the different codes can tell you....unless they just threw in some ITR pistons .....

Well the Tech at Honda is pretty certain thats a real B18c from an ITR.

Also, JDM ITR motors differ from USDM versions in teh fact that their valve cover has a 'H' on it while the USDM version does not.
And for the reasons we stated on JDMCivic.com

also the dohc vtec "label" i guess......it's different from the usdm ones.....like.....the "dohc" is bigger than "vtec"....or the other way around......but you can't really trust valve covers now can you?.....too many fakers out there......

there's a very simple answer to this very simple question of... "Is my JDM ITR motor a real ITR motor?"
the block will be stamped with "B18CR" instead of "B18C" (Japanese VTi-R motor) or "B18C5" (USDM ITR motor)

I thought I read somewhere that the B18b was the Integra Type R engine. So is wrong?
