So I'm doing my thing at the Depot tonight when a co-worker mentions he has a friend with an SR-20 swapped 240 who is looking for a race...I'm hesitant because I'm thinking it won't be much of a race...then he says he's just has bolt ons and still running stock boost...so I tell him that we have a race.

So me, my friend, his friend with the 240 and a bunch of other random dudes meet up at del-taco, and we drive to the spot. It's on!

Race 1: He hooks well, I hook okay...hold him at about a carlength until I hit 3rd gear...he walks away...he shuts down at about 100 or so, 3 1/2 cars ahead...ouch. Find out that I forgot to take my overdrive off.

Race 2: I hook well, he doesn't...I immediately jump out a car and a half...he gets back about a 1/2 car until he misses the 2nd to 3rd shift...drops back a car and a half...I hold him there until I shut down at about 105, me 2 1/2 cars ahead.

Race 3: I hook decent, he hooks unbelievably, gets about a car on me right out of the hole. I lose about another 1/2 car until I hit 3rd gear (which is about 80 mph, by the way)...he walks again, but not nearly as hard as the first race when I had the o/d on(???)...he shuts down at 105, about 3 cars ahead (but only 2 1/2 if we are using my car instead of his :icon16: ).

So I come out 1-2 against the SR-20, but in reality 0-2 since the 2nd race he missed a shift...it sucks losing, but it's the first race I've had in a couple of months, so a good time was had :p

Cliff notes: His car was faster than mine.

It would be a good race...you guys use the same turbo (T25) and I believe that your DSM runs more boost on that turbo as well.

That's the gist I got...he had bolt ons like exhaust and such, but it was basically the stock red top with sylvia tranny running at the stock (8 psi?) boost...I'm still surprised at how he walked away from me up top though.

The O/D off light will only come on if you've clicked the button on the shifter, otherwise it just drops down a gear and holds it. It's like when you're going 65mph behind a truck, go to switch lanes and punch it and the car downshifts.

That's what it does basically... downshifts from OD into 3rd gear and off you go. If you boys raced longer, and you maxed out 3rd gear with the O/D on, it might of shifted up and kept pulling a bit. But I'm going to assume you'd hit your speed limitor before that happened... but maybe not?

Anywho, good runs mang. Those SR20DET's are fun little motors, I enjoyed mine when I had it. Of course, mine was stuck in a car 200-300lbs lighter than your average S13. Fun times were had. :D

3rd gear maxes out at about 125 mph, once in 4th, it will go until it's electronically limited speed of ~131 mph. I only achieved a top speed of 105 mph during any of the three runs, so that wasn't an issue.

Not to mention the aftermarket intake manifold with the shorter intake runners for better top end, and the tubular header I had for that stock as stock T25... and 3" elbow and full 3" exhaust.

Still, manual Maxipads are quite quick. I know a few guys with them and they get up and move for a 4 door saloon.

You guys should have done a high end race from a roll. He may pull a few lengths ahead of you off of a higher speed but stock we are capped at 115mph so you would have eventually gotten by him.
Stock boost is 7 psi, barely impressive but enough to beat up on some NA 4, 6 and certain underpowered 8 cylinders.

It was definitely a lot of fun, it wasn't THAT close a race but he didn't totally own me either...that's why I like racing boosted cars, I usually get them out of the hole, and then when we get going, they usually catch and pass me, makes for some interesting racing.

good race, i expected you to keep up well since maxima's got pretty decent top end and hes running stock boost, but usually when you put breathing mods, it will usually creep up by like 3 psi, so your basically running a SR running 10 psi.
