Looks pretty cool...not sure about the headlights. So, what's the watered down Infiniti going to look like, or has Nissan fianlly come to their sences and decided to ship this one to us?

The car will be shipped as is to the states (with Infiniti badging) as Carlos Ghosn forced Nissan to realize that it's infinitely idiotic to produce a high-dollar grand tourer filled with one-off pieces and then only sell it to an 1/8th of your potential market.

You'll see the Infiniti GTR in a few years, and it will be summarily trounced in sales by the established sports car brands in America, though may enjoy more success than the abismal Honda/Acura NSX.

I just think it looks like they took an RX-8 and 350Z, mixed it together, then took the 350Z's ass lights and put it on the front. Doesn't look bad but they got no where near as good as they did with the R34.

It's a good thing that it's just a concept. I think it the body looks a little bit too close to the 05 Mustang from a point of view. Personally think its cool that Infinity/Nissan is actually bringing out the GTR. I hope the designers make it more of a sporty look that a futuristic look though...well, lets see what happens!

Man, I could have sworn I've seen that rear-end before... Oh, right! The Corvette! rear looks too much like a Colbalt. You two have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

Skyline's have had circular ass lights since the mid 1960's. The Corvette changed around 1961. The Cobalt came out in 2005.

It is understandable that PinstripeBob would say this, for he is a newbie and sounds like a domestic car guy. But for you Silver_GTR34 to say this, well, you need to change your user name for saying a dumbass thing like that. You are disgracing the name R34 by using it and not even knowing that the Skyline has had this tail light design for over 35 years.

The Cobalt's tail lights look like the Skyline's, not the other way around.

Here--I will go out my way to prove both of you "non-knowing about Skyline" nerds wrong with some pictures of Skylines from the past 40 years. NOTE THE YEAR ABOVE THE PICTURES. THAT IS THE YEAR OF THE CAR.
WITH CIRCULAR TAIL LIGHTS!!! :swear:

First of all, you have to admit that that rear end looks like a C5's and C6's. Second, yes, I am a domestic car guy, and I am new to this forum, but alas, I am not a "nerd." Third, the Corvette had those before 1965(I didn't do any research on the Nissan, dumb thing, if I'm wrong, tell me), and the Cobalt has already gone through the concept phase and into production. The lights could have been changed so that they didn't look like the Cobalt's.

You are not getting it. The Skyline had four circular tail lights before the C5, C6 and way before the Cobalt. If anything, GM copied Nissan, so GM should change it's design.

The Cobalt rear end completely copied the Skyline's. When the Cobalt came out, alot of people said things like "Why does the Cobalt's rear look like the Skyline?, GM ripped off Nissan!"

Did you even look at the pictures I posted above with the years above them?????????

NISSAN had the lights first!!!!!!!

PinstripeBob
10-27-2005, 07:38 PM
Wait. In my last reply, I said the Corvette had them before 1965, and for you to correct me if Nissan had them before them. I did a quick search on eBay Motors to confirm this, and I saw a 1961 Corvette with those taillights.

Alright, missed that. Sorry. But alas, two of my posts ago, I said the back looked like a C5's and C6's. My point was not to direct attention to the lights, but rather the sculpture of the back. This new Skyline, and slightly the previous, have very similar lines in the whole back of the car, right where that big seam is from the rear quarters.

PinstripeBob, you seem like a pretty good guy after all.

Sorry I was gone for a while, I just got done watching that horror flick House of Wax with Paris the whore Hilton. It was pretty good.

I'm not saying I was was testing you. That would be stupid & gay. I'm not one of those weirdos.

Anyhow, when you two said those beginning statements, I had to say something because I knew that one day somebody would say Nissan is copying Chevy.

What sucks is that when the Skyline finally gets to the good ol' U.S., everybody and their siamese twin is gonna say that Nissan is a copy cat.

Oh well, what do I care, I didn't create the goddamn car or even own one.

You know what the good thing is about this thread Bob?

Looks o.k. but not from the sides. Not to crazy about the taillights...don't look as good as the R34 to me...I couldn't wait till this car finally came out but now that its close, I don't feel as enthused as before...even though I'm still excited. Also, most of its fans most likely won't even be able to afford it. When I'm finally able to afford a $70k or over car I most likely will get the cayman, or something else that probably won't be an Infiniti. It seems japanese car makers have a history of coming out with trend setting cars and then shooting themselves in the foot by pricing them so damn high... At least its good that they are making the GTR global...can't go wrong with that! Hopefully, when it comes out it will peak my interest a little more than just riding on the claim of its name.

GT-R Going Upscale: Next-gen Skyline to be sold as Infiniti in U.S., sources say

KATHY JACKSON | Automotive News

Posted Date: 12/5/05

LOS ANGELES - The next-generation Skyline GT-R, a high-performance sports car, will be sold as an Infiniti in the United States, say two sources familiar with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.'s plans.

The current generation is sold under the Nissan brand in Japan. Company executives have been debating whether to sell it in America as a Nissan or an Infiniti.

The most recent GT-R concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The production model will be shown at the Tokyo show in 2007.

The sources say the vehicle will be either a 2008 or 2009 model with a sticker price of about $65,000. They say Nissan has targeted annual U.S. sales of about 1,500.

The automaker showed only the car's exterior at the Tokyo show and has not said much about the powerplant. But one source says the Skyline GT-R will have all-wheel drive and two turbochargers, and produce more than 400 hp.

"It will be wicked; faster than a bullet," he said.

Asked to comment on the vehicle, Frederique Le Greves, head of public relations for Nissan North America Inc., said, "No decision has been made on whether it will be a Nissan or Infiniti when it comes to the United States."

Some company executives fought to put a Nissan nameplate on the GT-R in the United States because it is known as a Nissan globally. The car appears in many popular racing video games in the United States, such as Sony PlayStation's Gran Turismo.

But a source says in-house studies show that the expected clientele does not want to shop for such a high-end vehicle at a Nissan dealership.

Infiniti dealer John Capps says the Infiniti dealer group has been lobbying for the GT-R. Capps, owner of Plaza Motor Co. in St. Louis, and former chair of the Infiniti dealer council, says "it would be a wonderful halo car."

I'm sorry my friend I have to disagree. At first it was a bit odd, but it has grown on me greatly. I have falling in love with this vehicle. I hope they dont change one inch on this car. Personally I dont care how much it cost I'm going to try to be first in line as though I buying a PS3. We cant be afraid of some change. She is gonna fit quite nice between my Z32 and G35C.

I had to join AF just to make my thoughts known. The Nissan Skyline has been my dream car for a very long time. I'm obsessed with it, but I need to get this great weight off my mind. This Nissan travesty is the worst thing I have ever seen. I remember looking at an article about the Sentra SER Spec-V (when it was new) and reading about how the Skyline team at Nissan JP laughed at them when the wanted the Sentra to share the same V-Spec badge as it was the top of the line Sentra. That same team that did the laughing is now producing this piece for its fans? The R34 is the best, so I have to agree with Automobile Maniac. But the taillights? Corvette? Nah, the Skyline has only been around since, oh, say, 1957! True it was not a sports car then, but when Prince still owned the car and manufactured it, it had the round tails. It has had them since and most of the Prince team remaining and of course the people hired since then, through merging with Nissan, Datsun, etc. still make up the majority of the Skyline team. The main three, R34 R33 and R32 also kept the same RB26DETT engine, and as one of the best production engines ever made it probably was time for it to be put to rest as a "new" engine after a good run of about 13 years only requiring minor adjustments for each model. But to put a new "Skyline team approved" engine into what looks like a crash between a Carrera GT, and a Toyota GT-One race car, only to be put back together by the Cadillac XLR design team is what Mirriam Webster likens to the word and concept of a travesty. I really want to see some interior pics, but I'm just starting to forsee the universal Nissan silver/black plastic steering wheel with a chrome Infiniti badge and other crap that will keep one like me bored. IE DVD Navigation. No thanks, I don't think I'd be driving around lost all the time in a $70k car. Ridiculous. I'm going to continue to save for an R34. The only good side to this is the R34 will hopefully go down in price. Now that I think of it, I saw a picture of the car in black in some car mag. It looked ok, but I may have to see one in person. We'll see in 2008 if any dealers even have one in stock to show i.e. NSX, 350Z S-Tune.

The Skyline GT-R is a great car, but you guys should broaden your horizons a little and realize there are many other great sports cars out there. Having lived in Japan and owned a GT-R, I can say they are pretty common place in Japan.

Additionally, there are countless four door beater skylines driving around all over Japan. It takes a little shine off the GT-R image when one pulls up next to you at a stop light. On the other hand there are no four door Corvettes or Vipers out there. (Just a little perspective).

Well... for one... it's no longer based off of the SKYLINE anymore. It's a plain GTR.

I still think it looks horrible for a skyline or a GTR. The other thing that is pissing me of is that they are trying to make the sentra a fast car, unless they make a new body design for it it I dont see it ever being sold, but then again if people build up hondas then why not a sentra.

I way prefer the looks of the R32-R34...

But I do like things like the headlights, and the taillights are better than I expected. Last I heard they were removing the round taillights and going with a bar style taillight.

I like that it is still going to be AWD and have a twin turbo system. I do happen to like the VQ platform also, so that has alot in its favor.

Still, untill I see one up close I wont know for sure if I like it or not.

Well not all cars named Skylines are super sexy. Take for example these two 4-door family sedans wearing the Skyline name:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/ture1945/RBmustang/r32sedan.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/ture1945/RBmustang/96nagtsside.jpg

Keep in mind that hundreds of thousands, if not millions of these lower skylines ply the streets of Japan everyday. They are everywhere, with babyseats in the back, rust, dents, missing hubcaps (that's right HUBCAPS!!).

The new R35 Skyline may not please everyone, but it is still a striking car. It is also gauranteed the production version will look slightly different and more refined. Besides it is aimed squarely at the entry level Porsche buyers anyway.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Gross.
Black line on bottom of frame needs to go
Rx8 front wheel wells need to go.
4 pipes? 1 cat back please.
top needs to have the r34 shape, not the 350z
Rear lights need to be un-sunk
Anything but crome or silver rims (preferably carbon fiber w/ r34 shape)
The front needs to be more like the r34, r33, and r32. none of this 350z shit
Overall too round, like the back wheel wells. what happened to the GTR look?
To much of a mustang, (mustangs are ugly)
and its just a lil' bit to high off the ground.
IT BETTER BE A RIGHT HAND DRIVE AND A NISSAN (world-wide).
Infiniti = shit; all ugly cars none look apealing what-so-ever.
RB26dett would be way better, keep the inline 6.
If they want more power, they should upgrade the turbos, fuel pumps, etc.
7-speed transmittions is one good thing about this, another is the view of the front when u cant see any of the hood, just the grill.
The windsheild looks nice from the side view.
Carbon fiber is the best look on cars (and on crotch rockets).
