98 Intrigue tranmission ?'s2wheelcowboy 10-18-2005, 11:19 PM Helleo to all. I just joined the forum tonight. Hopping to get some help with my wifes car. I have read several of the threads regarding the problem with the transmissions on these cars. On several of the threads many of the members were reporting of a whining noise when car was in Park or Nuetral. And I saw the tech report from GM on this. My wifes car is just the opposite. I whines when put into gear and of course changes pitch as you increase speed. a) car shifts perfect(no hard shifts) b) accelerates fine c) no shuddering d) just replaced waterpump and thermo 3 months ago e) flushed trans last winter and will do same next weekend f) car idles smooth as ice in park, nuetral or stopped at a light and is very quiet at the same instances. As I stated above, I plan on flushing system out next weekend nad will be using the products that have been suggested by the members. Any additional information will be greatly appreciated and used to the best of my abilities. A thatnks for putting up with another newbie. panzer dragoon 10-19-2005, 07:59 PM read the owners guide and follow the instructions for measuring the tranny fluid. If you don't use this method you'll swear the fluid level is way to high when in fact it's fine. I'm saying this because your tranny fluid may be too low. The turbo-hydramatic always had an associated whine with it, but it should be barely noticeable. With a low fluid level it will make a louder than normal whine. Joseph315 10-19-2005, 09:50 PM Be careful cowboy! I just had my transmission replaced (you can read my thread!!) and before I did I was given suggestions by a few of the members on here and also read a couple of old threads that suggested highly against flushing the tranny. One of the first things that the transmission specialist asked me was "did they flush the tranny"? So please be careful. But then again re-reading your thread you are going to be doing it yourself and not with some machine that could do some damage. Good luck. 2wheelcowboy 10-20-2005, 11:02 PM read the owners guide and follow the instructions for measuring the tranny fluid. Actually I just got an owners manual a couple weeks ago. And so I did not follow the directions when i refilled it after the flush last winter. But I will do that tonight when I get home from work. I've been driving her car to work this week and besides that whinning it drives and shifts just fine. It hasn't had any problems of any kind in the 2 years we've had the car. It just turned 160,000. phewop118 10-23-2005, 09:09 PM Are you sure the whine is from the transmission? My 01 Intrigue GLS has 2 whines that follow the engine throught its rpms, changing pitches with rpm, but neither is engine related. One comes from the bose amplifier, while the other comes from the HVAC blower. Laser17 10-24-2005, 12:30 AM whoa whoa whoa, you should never "flush" any transmission, all you should do is every year drop the pan, change the filter, clean out the pan and replace the fluid, flushing just stirs up sediments in the tranny that is useless hooptiecar 10-30-2005, 04:13 PM I noticed the same whine....I traced it to low power steering fluid. I top off the resouvoir to the cold mark and the noice is gone. I have 120000 on my 98 Intrigue. My trans does whine a bit but not loud. Too bad GM killed the model. I lik ethe seats. Helleo to all.
