I am doing a school paper on The Cars People Drive. I am doing research to determine if my assumptions are correct. What I mean is cars are an image. They are an extension of one's personality (moms drive minivans, doctors drive mercedes/BMW, Lawyers drive sporty cars, etc.) I am seeking input on viewpoints to help me with this paper. I have my assuptions and am hoping I am correct based on your inputs. Please help and feel free to tell it like it is. My time is short. I have about three days to get your inputs.

I would agree.

I am a person that likes coupes. I don't like bigger cars and I guess that is an extension of who I am. However, I don't drive them to show people that. Function always comes before form to me. I like my cars to look nice and I like them to perform well.

On the other hand I have a brother-in-law that couldn't care less about his car. To him it is just a way to get from point A to point B. He doesn't care about aesthetics. All he cares about is how much it costs and less is better.

I started out over 20 years ago with apreference for 2 dr. cars. I hated 4 drs and the advent of the minivan. I guess I didn't see myself in anything else but a 2 dr. car. To me they were more "personal" and sporty. Around the mid '90s I bought a brand new truck, it was 2drs. but it marked a small change in the vehicles I owned and drove. It was more functional, and fit my needs at the time. I got married a couple of years later and we bought our first 4 dr. car. With a family on the way, it became more practical and easier to use. Two years later, we outgrew the car and traded up to a minivan. Between family and hauling things, this is the best vehicle that fits my family's needs. I still have the minivan, along with the truck, and 3 4dr. cars and 1 2dr. car, quite a change from 20 years ago. As I matured and entered different stages of life,the vehicles I owned and drove changed with them. My views on these vehicles have also changed, also I am still partial to 2 dr cars :smile: .The image of a 2 dr car to me is free-spirited and "bachelor"( no obligations,) while 4 dr. cars and minivans project an image of family and responsibilities to me.
