Ford Windstar 1998 BrakesGUYA 10-18-2005, 08:09 PM Hello: I Have A Problem, In The Forward Side Right, Specific Whith The Caliper Of The Pads. The Book Says That This Piece (the Caliper) Maintained Adjusted Automatically The Pads To The Disk. The Problem Is That Is Maintained Adjusted Impeding That The Wheel Rotate Freely. It Is Maintained Very Adjusted. That I Can Do? Ford Windstar 1998. Thanks. Dan DRW1000 10-19-2005, 01:53 PM The front Disc brakes do not require adjustment. The brake cylinder fills with fluid when the brakes are applied and the pads contacts the rotor on both sides. When the brake pedal is released the pressure in the brake lines is relieved and the pads back off just enough to allow free movement of the rotor. If you are experiencing drag and you feel it is due to pad to rotor contact then parhaps the sliding surfaces of the pad assemblies to the frame/guide assembly need to be lubricated. (Not the pad surface or rotor) If it is a new brake job then perhaps the old guides were removed and new ones were not inserted. Another item could be the master cylinder itself and perhaps it is applying pressure when it should not be. baumbr 10-19-2005, 04:13 PM I don't think one is supposed to lubricate the sliding surfaces of the pads. That could lead to having zero braking power. More likely the surfaces where the pad CARRIERS slide on the caliper pins/bolts are what should be cleaned and lubricated DRW1000 10-19-2005, 04:35 PM I don't think one is supposed to lubricate the sliding surfaces of the pads. I was thinking about the sliding surfaces of the pad assembly against the caliper assembly. I have corrected my earlier post to ensure that I don't lead anyone astray. THE BRAKE PAD IN THIS SIDE (RIGHT) ARE DRAGGING AND FUME AND MAKE BAD ODOR. THANKS. LeSabre97mint 10-19-2005, 09:20 PM HI; YES, THE WEEL IS HARD TO TURN. THE BRAKE PAD IN THIS SIDE (RIGHT) ARE DRAGGING AND FUME AND MAKE BAD ODOR. THANKS. Guy Either your caliper is frozen up, brake hose is creating a one way valve. I don't think it's the master cylinder because both wheels aren't locking up. If you want to check for built up pressure in the caliper, press the brake pedal and let it up. (without the brake pedal pushed) open the bleeder. If it squirts I would say the hose is bad. I had a Caravan that both brakes were smoking because the master cylinder was acting as a one way valve.
